Default Custom intakes throwing cel!

So I got custom intakes made from my buddy put them went and picked the car up drove it about 30 miles running great no cel. Then I get home let it ait for 3 hours get back in start it no cel drive about a mile then Cel comes on. Pulled over turned car off let sit for about 3 min restart car cel still on drove it to work about 17 miles with cel on was sputtering a bit around 3000 rpm. Any ideas on what to do? Dont want to get it dyno'd since I'm NA

Well if you dont want to have the AF ratio adjusted via a tune, I'm not sure what you can do short of going back to stock or purchasing a proven aftermarket intake.

Is this your only mod?

I am assuming it has something to do with the MAF.

Read any OBD DTCs and google the code.

Yes this is my first mod had my buddy with a scanner tonight clear the codes it was MAF sensors drove it home and it ran fine no Cell right now. Tomorrow I'm Putting on Fast Intentions HFC with full Tomei which I think might throw cel again. Was jw should I just buy like an uprev tune for both of these instead of taking it to a tune shop?

You need to have your MAFs scaled for 3" intakes. So either tuning, change your intakes to ones that have proper sized piping to not upset the MAFs (Stillen, AEM, etc) or back to stock.

For the sake of your engine, please put the OEM intakes back on until you learn a little more about engine mods. Although your buddy's intakes look great, they are not the proper equipment (see comments above).

As far as a tune goes, the rule of thumb is:
Intake mods only - no tune required (the ECM will adapt)
Exhaust mods only - no tune required (the ECM will adapt)
Intake + exhaust mods - tune required

IMNSHO, metal intakes are a bad idea. You pick up a lot of heat from the engine bay unless you do a lot of insulating. YMMV

Yeah, running lean is no joke. Go back to stock (+cbe?) until you convince yourself to get a tune
