Default Majestic Motorsports Exhaust vs Ark GRiP

So I've been looking at getting the Ark GRiP exhaust for my Z and I was in Majestic Motorsports in Jacksonville, NC having them do some work on my clutch and they mentioned that they can do custom exhaust and quoted me a cheaper price by a couple hundred bucks. Has anyone had any experience with them or know if doing that is a good idea? They can make my exhaust, HFCs and install them for cheaper than it would be just to order the Ark exhaust and cats with no install.

I'm also looking at the HKS Hi-Power. Just unsure about the rep for Majestic to know if I should be paying them for custom work that might not be as good as something designed for the Z.

Can't help you out with the rep of Majestic so hopefully someone on here can help you with that but most of the time a custom exhuast is a great way to go. If the shop knows what they are doing and you can be specific about what you want then it should turn out sexy as hell. I will suggest 1 thing though, check that they have a mandrel bender. If not your bends will restrict airflow which in turn hinders the performance. Don't do it just because it's cheaper, be sure they can make it exactly how you want it.

That's definitely something I didn't think about. I'll keep that in mind, thanks! I'm not very educated when it comes to all this so I'm just trying to make sure I don't screw myself lol

I had them make a custom dual tip exhaust for my 2011 Camaro SS. They even made the dual tips fit into the stock body kit cutouts without too much modification. Ended up saving $500 and had three guys in my club ask me to swap. Their welder John is top notch.

A shop fabricated exhaust is fine as long as you aren't paying too much. But it sounds like they are still going to be more expensive than the most common off-brand exhausts like Beluga, Top Speed, etc which generally sound acceptable and have decent fitment for the most part. I wouldn't let some shop with unknown Z experience fabricate anything for me.

If you decide to go the custom route, definitely make a plan before you green light anything by them. By foregoing the research aftermarket manufacturers put into their systems (aka why they cost so much) you're risking making less power or ending up with a bad exhaust note. Al I can say is research the components and plumbing:
  • resonator/muffler brand, size and placement
  • crossover (Y, H, X) type and placement.

That isn't to say all aftermarket systems are good, I'm having a shop redo 2/3's of my catback because the crossover and resonators combine to sound

I don't want anyone experimenting on my car...what if it sounds like poo poo, they aren't going to take it back.

Well, if you want to hear some of their exhaust systems PM me. They did a killer job on my Camaro and they did a great job on 370z systems I have heard. They also own a 1600HP GTR, if not the ark system will do well too.

Off-The-Shelf exhaust would be easier to resale, if thats a thing you might care about.

I can't speak about the GRiP system, but I've had a ton of fitment issues with my ARK DT-S. I do love the sound, but poor fitment and zero support from the manufacturer was enough to put me off of any future ARK Performance purchases.
