Short air intake vs heat

Not to start a war as it relates to this endless debate, but real world data logging on most platforms/vehicles has shown many times - that once a car is moving ambient intake temps between "short ram" intakes and long tubes is much closer than the internet believes it is - and most of the gains found in long tube intakes is primarily credited to intake velocity and air turbulence, not some dramatic drop in intake temperature.

Yes, once the car is moving temps come down. The temp difference is pretty dramatic in stop and go traffic or normal commuting. Once you get to freeway speeds, you're right, the temps come down. But if you log IATs on this platform, the short rams are sucking in a lot of hot air at lower speeds and you can feel it pulling timing.

EDIT - That's why the OEM setup with drop in filters and silicone maf tubes works so well. It's still drawing outside air. You just leave a few HP on the table vs long tubes.

Yeah, I wasn't even about to touch that specifically. Also, imagine if someone was running a vented hood optimized for extracting hot air...
