Default Eateries in Kauai

Sup Fellas!

My wife and I are heading to Kauai for a week and was wondering if ya'll could give us some "must go to"local grub spots that are not necessarily on Yelp.

Thanks in advance

That's gonna be a hard question for most of us to answer. The majority of us live on Oahu, but maybe some go to Kauai often and they can chime in? Idk but I have only been to Kauai a couple of times and it has been over a couple of years since I last went. But if worst comes to worst you can probably just ask the locals there and they can tell you whats good and whats not.

Sorry I couldn't be of much help

Where on Oahu will you be staying? There are lots of good places to eat in all areas of the island

We'll be staying right across from Waikiki beach. I'll have a rental so travel is not a issue

Kahuku shrimp! Either giovannis or romys though, the rest is tourist traps if you ask me. If your at romys try the steamed prawns

Kahuku shrimp is really good. Also everyone seems to like Rainbow's Drive Inn but it does get really crowded because its like a tourist destination now lol. But honestly, pretty much any locally owned plate lunch restaurants are pretty good

Many ethnically diverse excellent eateries on Oahu. Just outside of Waikiki on Kapahulu Ave are these, so a very short drive for you. Japanese food, Tokkuri Tei, excellent Izakaya style (small dishes type dining/also sushi, so you can try a variety of dishes). Chinese, Hee Hing Restaurant. Hawaiian food, Ono's Hawaiian Food.

Little further away at Aloha Tower Marketplace, American w/a little local flair, Gordon Birsche (along harbor waterfront). For Italian food, Paesano's in Manoa Valley. Enjoy your trip here & feel free to ask more questions. Oh yes and definitely Kahuku shrimp at the places mentioned above

For sushi kona kai is my favorite now. For a stepped up plate lunch try kakaako kitchen

Oh definitely try yakiniku Hiroshi if you can afford it. $100 a head for the platinum course is a little steep for a set course but you get a good amount of food and the quality of the beef is literally melt in your mouth. You dont even have to chew. The kobe ribeye alone sells for around $160 and its included in the set meal. Its also located in waikiki across from the dfs. You can thank me later
