UPS doesn't use heavy equipment for handling packages unless it is freight (over 150 lbs). Anything over 70 lbs is supposed to be picked up by 2 people but that almost never happens. When the truck gets to the sorting facility the unloaders climb aboard and start slinging packages.

You ship UPS using UPS...wow that was confusing for a few seconds lol

Sorry, wasn't thinking about that when writing it, LOL.

Got the exhaust about an hour ago... No obvious damage to the packaging but was on my way into work and haven't opened it yet. I'll see how it looks inside when I get home, later tonight.

cab83_750 03-11-2010 07:38 PM

How hard is it to 'unbend' the hanger? Can it just be bent so that the right and left hangers are at the same height?

The Weapon 03-11-2010 08:30 PM

Berk is sending me a replacement for the back part to exchange but in the mean time they said i could keep the current one they shipped and try to tweak it myself. I almost fixed it 100% but it's still not quite there. It will do for now until my new rear section comes.
Oh and this is without any other modifications. No nuts, no washers just bolted the way it's suppose to be. After i tried the "washers fix" I experienced a very annoying vibration and removed them.

This is how mine bolted up only the driver side was a tad lower than the passenger.

I turned it upside down and put a 2x4 wrapped in a towel to prop up the lower end and i stood on the tall end which in my case would have been the passenger side. It just bent ever so slowly. Then i got the same 2x4 and tried to raise the driver side up a bit.

That was the best i could do since i don't have any tools to properly bend it.

As for the lic. plate being crooked I did that on purpose to make an optical illusion that the exhausts weren't crooked. :tiphat:

Do you happen to know if the Berk exhaust is 'lower/higher" to the ground compared to stock? Do you happen to have a 'before' picture for comparison purposes?

Just need to know if scraping issues might occur.

Lastly, are the tips (both left and right) centered to the cutout? In looking at the picture, it appears that the side-to-side width of the left-and-right tips are a tad narrow.

Thanks.

After my installation (sorry, no pics) there doesn't seem to be a difference in clearance. I was a little worried looking at the angle of the pipes while the car was up on the lift, but it looks like nearly the same clearance as stock (from Nismo, not base).

The tips on mine are also near-perfectly aligned from right to left with the Nismo's exhaust "cut outs" of the bumper. I imagine the base will be the same.

lol, good idea with the 2x4, i think mines are crooked too.

Berk Xpipe installed, no issues at all, pipes line up perfectly, the sound is unbelievable, no drone, you could pass a cop with this exhaust at 2500 rpm and he wouldn't even blink. God forbid you did that at WOT.

I am posting a couple of pics in the official Berk Xpipe thread.

Nice! can't wait to hear it on my car.

Hey Mike, I can't dyno the exhaust due to technical difficulties, have you or anyone else been able to get baseline numbers on HP gains with the catbacks?

I haven't seen any new ones yet since the ones I did way back when with the prototypes.

Yes, the HFC/Cat-Back combo made 36whp on my car. I didn't test with the stock cats.

Figured I'd chime in here - PM-ed Berk too, but who knows, maybe someone else ran into the same issue.

So vertically, my tips are lined up perfectly. But the whole rear section seems shifted to twords the passenger side a bit. Any theories at all? Maybe just loosen all the bolts and try to realign it all? I didnt see anywhere in particular that it might have been misaligned...but hey, you never know right?

I think the only way to shift left to right is by adding another gasket. Call berk and I'm sure they will send you one. Hopefully they sent mine out.

so just wanna give a real quick brief review on the berk exhaust. ive had it on for about 3 days now. and everytime i know im about to drive my z i get really :) the z definitely sounds soo much better now. the sound on start up is amazing, then it starts to quiet down when it gets to idle. i guess these engines are just quiet in general because whenever its idling, it's reallly quiet. but once you start getting on the gas and going through all the gears, it REALLLY opens up. sounds sooo damn nice. its like a nice deep growl. no rasp at all. definitly a great sounding exhaust. and all i have is the berk cbe installed. and i plan on installing my fast intentions hfc's soon.
the exhaust is definitly well made. pretty nice welds. mine was a little misaligned at the tips. but i just used some force and aligned it as best i could and also bent the brackets that hold the hangars. and i made the tips align perfectly, the exhaust looks as if it came stock on the car... which is what i was going for to begin with. theres no rattles or weird noises, everything sounds great. no issues whatsoever. im really happy with it and can't wait to open it up even more with the high flows!

Installed my Berk CBE on Friday with a buddy who drives an S2k...

Everything out of the box was fine, including how it looked while packed in the box. No huge holes or pieces all over the place while in side it.

I took off my NISMO exhaust in about an hour and then aligned the Berk on the ground and had no issues there either.

The gaskets for this guy were great; Nice and hefty, leaving little room for the chance of having an exhaust leak.

The Berk went on fairly "headache," free, other than some mild aligning with the muffler to it's connecting pipes (which I'm pretty sure I even had to do when I previously put the NISMO). I had no issues connecting it to my Berk HFC's, either.

Upon start-up, first there was this

then this, :leghump:

and finally this,

The first thing my S2K buddy said, "ohhh, now I see why you wanted this exhaust... Can I drive it? I wanna hear the this thing synchro-rev match!"

:icon17:

On Saturday, I went on a run, up the local mountain (Mt. Lemon), that was being organized by some Honda friends and it was nice being the only Z out there and sounding bad-a$$, while getting the "wtf" looks and "is that the stock exhaust? it looks stock... Damn, sounds nice!"

It was a very gratifying weekend, in all, I must say!

How far were yours off? I may need 2 I think, at least - an additional one for between the HFC's and the Y-pipe, and another between the y-pipe and the extension to the passenger side of the muffler piece.

I easily yank the exhaust to the left and that centers it no problem, but as soon as I go driving it shifts back over again. Hmpf.

Yeah, there is no point trying to push the exhaust into position, the only way to align it is by bending the hangers. I'm not sure how well the gaskets will work but I'm pretty far off.

Very cool reviews so far from customers...Was wondering whether anyone els has some pics or vids up with the Berk's Exhaust...I recall hearing "TheDreamerz" sound clip...Would love to see some more pics and vids from others...
