Berk, what's up with the packaging? Looks like all exhausts are packaged differently, some with packing peanuts, some with just bubble wrap and some properly with bubble wrap, paper and straps around the boxes. I sure hope my exhaust comes as well packaged as The Weapons...

LOL... Sorry, just had to. Yeah, I'm looking forward to hear the exhaust with stock cats as well. Just so I know in case my combination of Berk HFC + CBE will be to loud for my taste. (I don't expect so but won't know for sure until I put the exhaust on :) )

cab83_750 03-09-2010 11:07 PM

Any chance that your test-car (template) is somewhat crooked? Can you test-fit the exhaust on a different car? I am just wondering.

During the time we were making and sending out this first batch of exhausts, we randomly test fit three of the systems on a bone stock 370Z that we have here in our shop. All of them fit perfectly straight out of the jig.

M.Bonanni called earlier to let us know about these alignment problems. I test fit another one here in the shop straight out of the jig and here are the photos...

These were taken about 10 minutes ago. I would like to take a look at one of the systems that is reporting crooked tips. Are there any in SoCal with the same issue? If so, please PM me so I can arrange a way to take a look.

Oh good ! Now I don't have to make a vid myself ! I have the same setup as you Dreamer with the Gen 3's and stock cats but I'm UpRev tuned and hopefully in about an hour I'll get some pulls on a Mustang Dyno at Secret Service Auto.

Sibze 03-10-2010 07:19 PM

After that vid................ Whens the next group buy????????

The Weapon 03-11-2010 12:38 PM

So i think i found the culprit to the lop sided tips. Berk is providing excellent Customer Service and assistance and I'm guessing one the hangers got smashed during shipping.

^^ Damn....nice analysis! Actually, it's pretty obvious in your case that it's the hangers even w/o the 2x4 and level.

Also, I find it strange that 90% of the packages received have signs of abuse/damage.

When I compare that to mine, you definitely had a "UPS Field Mod" :icon18:

First of all, we at Berk Technology would like to appologize for our early customers whose exhaust systems were packed poorly. We are not making any excuses for our mistake in this regard and are offering resolution to those who received any damaged components because of this mistake. Rest assured that we have taken an entirely different approach to packing these systems after the criticism from our customers and first hand knowledge of how truly disrespected these boxes are by the delivery companies.

Unfortunately, because of this, some of our customers exhaust hangers have been bent during the shipping process resulting in mis-aligned tips after install. We are working with these customers to resolve their issue, but we are happy to announce that this is not a manufacturer defect that is causing the mis-aligned tips and re-assure any potential customers in the future that their exhausts will be packaged in a way to prevent bent hangers. We would like to thank The Weapon for helping us determine the cause of this.

We have learned an important lesson through this first batch, but we stand behind our product and our customer service 100%. So again, our apologies to those who were un-happy with any part of their experience with us. We do not take your criticism lightly and will do our best to rectify the situation. Thank you to all of our customers for your support! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks for the response, Berk. Hope it all works out well.

So I cant help but be curious - is this one of the first exhaust setups that you've truly "mass" produced and had to ship in pieces like this?

We do exhausts for a number of cars (S2000, 135i, MR2), but this is by far the largest and heaviest.

Speaking of weight, what does the system weigh?

JB1 just weighed his production version and posted these weights today...

Total weight: 64lbs
Parts:
- Muffler section: 33lbs
- X-pipe: 13lbs
- Mid pipes (resonators): 9lbs each, so 18 in total

Yes but what are the chances that almost all of BERK's packaging was damaged. Even if UPS or USPS has a bad rep for handling packages, the odds of this many from one company, and same product is ridiculous. It almost seems deliberate. Perhaps the package handler(s) at BERK's local distribution center is a hater or has some beef with BERK or who knows what the motive is.

Oh and to be honest, I've had no complaints from packages that I've received from UPS. And I order a lot from Amazon.

I order a lot of stuff, a lot, and over time have noticed the larger the package the worse the damage is/will be. Maybe because size/weight puts it underneath more thus causing more issues or the fact of the size/weight the employees care less and treat it like a basketball.

How many ~90lb packages do you order from Amazon? :)

M.Bonanni 03-11-2010 04:55 PM

I've got to imagine that the use of carelessly operated heavy machinery comes into play with boxes of this size/weight in UPS facilities. They definitely don't leave Berk's hands looking like that. There's got to be some sort of common element that is causing all of these boxes to arrive with holes in them.

Ordering from Amazon and delivering 86-lb packages ful of metal pipe are two very distinct things. My wife's business receives large furniture shipments via UPS, Fedex every single day. It is astonishing how much product comes in damaged in-transit once the domestic carriers get their hands on it. Deliberate at Berk? No. :shakes head:

ChrisSlicks 03-11-2010 05:28 PM

We order 75 lb computer UPS's on a regular basis. Probably almost 50% of these were getting damaged by UPS in transit. The UPS's aren't packed in the best packaging in the world, so if they get dropped from any height they break.

UPS doesn't use heavy equipment for handling packages unless it is freight (over 150 lbs). Anything over 70 lbs is supposed to be picked up by 2 people but that almost never happens. When the truck gets to the sorting facility the unloaders climb aboard and start slinging packages.
