Whiskey Drinkers

As a Scotch whiskey drinker, I'm curious what my fellow Z34 owners drink on a regular basis. And I mean, what do you drink on a Tuesday night, not while on a cruise in the Mediterranean. Feel free to post your adult beverage of choice on special occasions as well. Whiskey, brandy, cognac, tequila, let's see them. Cheers :tiphat:.

I'm a Johnnie Walker fan. Black, Double Black, and Green, are my favorite of the lot. A glass of Chivas Regal, Glenfiddich, even cognac such as Hennessey, on the rocks, is always welcome. Double Black seems to be the flavor of the seasons (or years) though.

http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...psdcc76bf5.jpg http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...ps86842923.jpg

On special occasions, I'll probably drink one of the following.

If I'm in the mood for Scotch, I'll usually go Macallen. It's gotta be a special occasion for me to bust out the 12 or 15, but the 10 works just fine. For regular drinking, I'm usually going to go with Jameson or bourbon these days.

Z370Z011 10-30-2013 11:30 AM

Im more of a beer person, but jack Daniel's is probably my favorite whiskey. Jack and coke  lol

Dude, at least make it Gentleman Jack or Single Barrel if you're going with Jack.

6MT 10-30-2013 11:40 AM

If it's whiskey, I prefer single malt and some blends of Scotch.

:bowrofl: i don't know the difference, I'm into beer. Jack Daniel's is probably the only whiskey i drink, but i will look into Gentleman Jack for the sake of not feeling stupid again lol.

Chuck33079 10-30-2013 11:49 AM

It's the good part of the taste of Jack, without the stank aftertaste. It's worth the extra couple of bucks a bottle.

/Angelo350Z/ 10-30-2013 11:52 AM

My dad likes whiskey and loves Jack. Honestly, I'm not a fan. I can see why most people would like the certain sweetness, but it seems there's too much contrast to the flavor. Macallen is good from I can remember. I haven't had that in 9 years.

I'd go with Maker's over Jack any day of the week, and I'm not even that big a fan of Makers.

Careful. It's a gateway drug. You'll start trying other bourbons, then it moves on to Scotch. Then it gets expensive. :rofl2:

/Angelo350Z/ 10-30-2013 12:04 PM

^^Nothing wrong with experimenting :tiphat:. Just drink it!

Sure there is. :rofl2: It gets expensive. I almost wish I had never started drinking good booze so I could still drink cheap booze.

True. I sometimes wish I kept drinking 40s or Natural Ice.

151 is the devil. Responsible for way too many bad decisions.

Akmcmahon 10-30-2013 01:17 PM

Wine is my drink of choice and I usually indulge in a glass a night or every other. I also drink whisky/whiskey, cognac, beer, champagne, and rum on occasion. What I generally drink on a regular basis:

Wine - Usually red.
Old Fashion - Makers Mark usually
Kelt XO "Tour Du Monde" Cognac
Remy Martin VSOP
Hennessy Black
Jack Daniels Christmas Special

After that it's whatever is near me or I have a taste for.

Ubetit 10-30-2013 01:34 PM

Lagavulin or Oban are my regulars for Scotch.

+1 for gentlemens jack.

P's_Z 10-30-2013 02:12 PM

Also,

Whiskey(on the rocks or with ginger ale)- crown royal or glenfiddich
Vodka- russian standard or ketel one
Tequila- don julio silver
Red Wine- blends or malbec

Tigger 10-30-2013 04:54 PM

On a typical night...

Balvenie 15
McCallan 12 or 18 (whichever bottle I grab first. ;))

kfull 10-30-2013 06:24 PM

Woodford Reserve is amazing

BGTV8 10-30-2013 07:46 PM

Red wine. there are 3 consumption quantities ....

1. Social - a small glass, or 2, usually with a meal
2. Medicinal - usually on Friday evening, after work, to put you into wind-down mode - 2-3 glasses
3. Industrial Strength .... when the objective is an insomnia cure (or the desire is to forget SWMBO)

Gentleman jack is fine if you like your bourbon to taste like perfume.

It's a massive step up from regular jack.

That's what their marketing department says at least. It's sideways at best and a terrible bourbon. It's filtered #7 with fruits and flowers added. Blech.

Chuck33079 10-30-2013 08:22 PM

You'll notice I said "if you're going with Jack". I think it's an improvement over the regular. Single barrel is much better. Even better is not drinking Jack at all. There's so much good bourbon out there.

Disagree, whiskey diet is my drink of choice, and the shittier the whiskey the sweeter they are, and if you're mixing, you're "killing" whatever quality your alcohol had (I disagree to an extent) but no reason to use higher dollar when you won't necessarily notice the smoothness or all the flavor. Oh, and once you hit plastic bottles you went too cheap, even for a mixed drink. Hell, MD 20/20 comes in glass for $2

gearheadjon 10-30-2013 08:47 PM

Makers Mark 46; however I also enjoy Woodford Reserve and Pappy Van Winkle

Well, if you're mixing it dont bother. I was under the impression we were discussing drinking it straight. It's all the same when you mix it with sodas. Especially diet, since fake sweetener is so overpowering. I've switched to coke zero over diet if I'm going to mix it.

All very good options. There's a lot of really good small batch Texas bourbons hitting the market these days too. 1835 is great and fairly cheap. Red River is pretty good too.

:iagree: 100%

And yep, Coke Zero, but most places don't have that, lol

That's part of the reason I do most of my drinking at home. The other reason is im a cheap bastard. Buy a good bottle for $40 or spent $40 on 5 or 6 drinks at the bar.

mults 10-30-2013 09:35 PM

Don't know if this is considered a whiskey, but on occasion, Mrs. Mults and I like to sip some Irish Mist on crushed ice. It is a nice "toddy" after dinner and is very smooth. It is a little on the sweet side, but it will give you a nice buzz if consumed at a moderate clip.

We had some out of state company stay with us recently, and they brought a bottle of Woodford Reserve for us. We haven't cracked the seal yet, but will probably do so as we are having more company this week.

kensnismo 10-30-2013 10:17 PM

only blue straight up. after a good dinner some remy and a good cigar like liga privaola or i had a montecristo 75th annversario desde 1935 the other day that was very nice.

H2O_Doc 10-30-2013 10:34 PM

Here is my observation: you know someone knows a LITTLE bit about scotch when they claim they only drink single malts. You know someone knows scotch much better when they recognize the quality and diversity of the flavor of single malts, but they also realize that many of the best (and better) scotches are well crafted balanced blends that will put many brutish unidimensional single malts to shame.

Having said that, and returning to whiskey sensu stricto, I like a good Irish Whisky over most Scotches any day.

XiP 10-30-2013 10:49 PM

I drink like XwChriswX
