I think that might say something about our society's attitude towards race/ethnicity. These days, people act surprised when I tell them I'm half Chinese. They had no idea. This was not the case 25 years ago. Not only did people take notice to the fact that I was of mixed race, they made a point of letting me know they didn't approve.
