Default Need suggestions to replace a Greddy Type 29 R Spec Intercooler.

Gentlemen:

My intecooler was damaged in a way that I cannot be reliably repaired. Greddy discontinued the 20G kit for the 370z, but s lists the Type 29 Spec R Intercooler for the GT-R...........and it runs roughly 4k. I would prefer another option, but I will roll with it if I have to. Who makes a dual inlet dual oulet intercooler that I can purchase? By the way, it will be purchased under a repair claim.

Try BEGI, Bell engineering group in Texas. They're known for miata stuff, but they do it all. I was in a similar position with a GTM intercooler. Presently, they are making a custom aftercooler for my vortech s2000 since I ruined my original and s2000 aftercoolers have been discontinued. Talk to Stephanie. She usually answers the phone, and knows her stuff. Corky does quite a bit of their one-off fabrication.

I'm fairly confident if you can mail them your defective unit, they'll be able to make you an identical one for much less than 4k. Don't quote me, but I'd think it'd be around a grand. May be a little less.

Edit: You'll have to wait until Monday to contact them. Only Corky is there on Saturdays and he stays in the shop.

Subbed for info in case I'm ever in this position. I'm not going to bet on GTM for a replacement.

I agree with this. They do great work for a fair price.

Could buy a core, cut off the existing tanks, and weld them to the new core. Probably less than $1500 said and done.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I am leaning more toward Charles' suggestion, but I will contact Bell Engineering to see what I can come up with. Maybe if I still had the crash bar (which wasn't possible with the Type 29 Spec R Intercooler) the intercooler would have survived the front impact.

The thing that is killing me is that I left the car in the states at UPREV thinking that it would be fairly safe while I was away. You know........get some things done, help push the tuning possibilites since they have a boosted Z in their garage, and help out the community. Guess Murphy has a way of throwing wrenches in the program everytime.

I'm not trying to advertise for them, but BEGI has been very good to me and they do honest work. Been into mod'ing for about 20 years and it's refreshing experiencing this. Also, I think you'd be really happy with their product.

FYI, BEGI can/will do what Charles is talking about. That's exactly what they are doing for my s2000 aftercooler. It's not my place to discuss their costs as I don't want to commit them to pricing, but I'm fairly certain it's less than 1500. Additionally, their cores are made here in the US and their inventory of size types is HUGE. If you have a specific core in mind, Stephanie will work with you to get it. You can always find a core online and then look for a welder yourself, but I like the idea of using an experienced IC welder.

My type 29 is good. Now I just need to redo the charge pipes because some of it got smashed.
