Don't over think it...it's really a matter of dollars and cents or if you are considering a different platform. I will tell you this, 600 plus whp is just stupid fun in a Z. I let my brother in Gilbert drive mine for the first time since flex fueling and he gave it a little throttle in second gear and the tires spun and stepped out a tad...he said ****, I wasn't expecting that!!! Let's put it this way, my brother hardly ever uses a cuss word and he has driven many exotics and just shakes his head at my car since being boosted.

I hope I'm not over-thinking it, I've decided I want to boost the car, and while I am considering another platform (damn you GM for the new El Camino); I'm keeping Belle. I did read Dreamer's comments about a boost controller, but while this will be my first boosted daily driver, it's not my first go round with forced induction, so I'm going to go with a boost controller. That way I can dial it back a bit, if I so desire. It's a matter of managing my 'Iwantitnow' :ugh2:

I was surprised this morning by a tune done over the late night hrs. I wasnt even aware i was getting tuned so i have no details at all until visconti calls me. Anyhow i am super happy to have broken 700whp at last.
But i think there is still some room once i upgrade my intake manifold.
Will fill you guys in with details once i find out myself.

Congrats !!! let me know how 700hp feels !!!
I'm on the brink of doing that as well ... the car is almost complete:excited:
What Intake Manifold are you considering ???
Thanks,

hjo1078 10-30-2015 02:07 PM

Thanks z&i. I def will let u know how it compares to 660. The m370 manifold was recommended to me by 1life so i think ill invest in one over the winter and see if we can crank it up a bit more.

Z&I 10-30-2015 02:33 PM

I had asked about the M370 Plenum during the first part of my build and was told that these modified plenums were OK with NA motors but with Hi Boost FI motors they had a tendency to flex and warp under boost.
The reason given was that the modification to the plenums included cutting and removing some of the internal baffles and while allowing for a more direct airflow they also compromised the structural integrity of the design.
How true ??? I dunno - but I stuck with the OEM plenum at least for now.
The car isn't finished yet but is in the final stages ...
Hope to get it on the road and put some miles on it before it's time to put the winter cover on it !!!

hjo1078 10-30-2015 02:53 PM

keep us posted bro! Well 1life has got a serious 820whp build and his m370 was able to hold 24 psi on 10:1 compression. So with not many options on the table i think that the m370 is my best option until someone releases an intake manifold thats not going to cost an arm and a leg.

I have a few things to get off my financial plate first. Plus I want to get everything else to the Nismo done before boost.

I think AAM has a design for an intake manifold in line for development ... they are the one's who told me to stick with the OEM over the M370.
But if the M370 can handle 24 psi on 10:1 CR ...
I'm running 9.5:1 CR and will be nursing the motor along until the spring - no break in miles on the motor as of yet.
Will have to skip taking it to the track this year.

Keeping this ugrade open pending further developments !!!

hjo1078 10-30-2015 04:30 PM

Love it when these awesome builds come together. Wish everyone was boosted.

It's been forever ... :icon14: ...

So many delays and miscues with the SC'r upgrade that I went with a new and highly qualified shop [and] good God [gulp] Twin Turbos.

In essence, I've had to start all over from scratch ... aaarrrggghhh ... a lot of wasted time and expense because of the former shop, but that's all water under the bridge now.

Went to 'visit my car in Maryland yesterday ... went over some final tweaks with them.
The tech is working feverishly :-) and the tuner will be doing the tune when he gets back from SEMA.
Going Flex Fuel and EcuTek...should be NICE
The motor break in and tune should take about 2 more weeks.

The only variable now left to test is the integrity of the motor since the rebuild.
That was done by IPP [Kyle Puckett] and should be good !!!

hjo1078 10-30-2015 04:38 PM

Oh damm ur car is in md? Flex fuel and ecutek is the best lol

lol ... yep ... a mere 220 miles away.
Haven't driven it in 2 years now - with the exception of 1 day about a year and a half ago - and that was just long enough to blow the motor with the upgraded Stillen SC'r impeller and 9 lb pulley.
??? Anybody out there considering doing that ??? DON'T !!!

Right now the car is in pieces - with the dash out for gauges - the wheels off for brakes - the nose off for anodizing the I/C.
But everything else is done. Putting it back together should be an :ohsnap1: considering all the work sweat and tears already put in to it.

EcuTek has a ton of options and safety features.
Using the EcuTek to control the boost.
I am removing the RaceLogic in favor of the EcuTek Traction Control and Launch as well.
Hijacking the Cruise Control for the Launch and adding a Rotary Selector Switch for the Slip Control.
I have line locks for the standing burnout and a switch/relay set up to drop out the ABS and ABLS.
But gotta wait till spring to see what it will do in the 1/4.

Will also have to upgrade my Avatar once it's done since the car has shed it's OEM Aero Kit.

Ecutek to control boost???? How ?

Can't tell you exactly how, but the tuner has said he can do it through EcuTek and he has done it before.
He's done a ton of GTR's and [well, almost] a ton of Z's.

I contacted EcuTek support to find out just how and they pretty much told me to contact the tuner...so I got off that merry-go-round.
Evidently EcuTek can be utilized to monitor boost and electronically control the wastegate.
On the down side - I might be giving up the flexibility of selecting my own boost settings though - don't know how much of a good or bad thing that is.
Don't plan on racing it until the spring - so I've got a little time to get to know the car again.

I should say here that the car isn't being done by FI ...
The car had already transported to another shop before FI released their TT kit WR video.
As Agent 86 Maxwell Smart would have said --- " Missed it by --- That Much --- "

Just couldn't bring myself around to extricating the car from another shop [once again] to ride the rails across the county.

Don't want to get too far off topic here ... but will find out more when the tuner gets back from SEMA.

hjo1078 10-30-2015 09:45 PM

Yeah hes right, i dont run an electronic boost controller anymore. Its all done through my tune. I have four different map settings. Eco, eco sport, race, and killer. Well thats what i named them atleast. I was told by visconti that i dont even need my boost controller anymore so i took it out. It is utilizing the solenoid from my boost controller still. I never really messed with my boost controller anyways and infact i dont even think i knew how to use it lol.

That is awesome! Gotta luv those map names

I was thinking: Really, OK then, Bring it, Goodbye!

I cannot wait to get mine installed and hit the strip :stirthepot: none of my friends that I run with even know I am getting the FI Twin treatment ;)

We use the CPC to control a solenoid to regulate boost pressure on this car and many other platforms (even using stock ECU solutions like ECUTek).

Yes this works on the 370Z. The only downside right now is it's a VERY slow circuit -- only 11hz. For good response you want to be around 24-32hz on the typical solenoid.

Z&I 11-02-2015 04:54 PM

What does this translate in to ??? Don't like that word SLOW at all...
no.no.no...:shakes head:...no.no.no

I'm basically a SC'r guy just getting his feet wet with Turbos...

It means the solenoid and therefore wastegate will react 1/2 to 1/3 as fast as a one controlled by say...an eBoost2. Easy decision in my book.
