Zex kit install 100 shot

6 Attachment(s)
Just like the title says gents. Okay so I snapped a few photos today of the install of what my buddy and I completed. We basically just ran the hoses all through the car and tapped the fuel line and got the jets hooked up to the intakes. Tomorrow all we gotta do is just run the wires, mount the bracket for the bottle and we are pretty much solid. So Thursday the kit will be finished with install and Friday I will be at the shop first thing in the morning for a tune. Thank you to the following Z forum members for answering all my questions Snakes709,BAHUMAT2JZ,One_Quick_Z, and JC671. I will of course post videos and dyno graphs and if they got wifi at the shop I'll try to upload it from my ipad while I am there. Any questions feel free to ask.

Zex kit bought it from Summit b/c they price matched from ebay 728
Accessory kit from ebay from Atlantic Speed which included blown down tube, purge kit, bottle heater, bottle gauge 289
Window switch bought from an LS forum 110.
NGK 1 step colder plugs from spark plugs.com about 143 after shipping. :ugh2:

Just got a call from the shop and I have to reschedule so I won't get the car tuned till sometime next week. I will still complete install today and post pics though.

One_Quick_Z 04-12-2012 03:31 PM

In for results I know they will be worth it!

Update Day 2 of install

9 Attachment(s)
Okay here are a few more pictures of what is going on with install. It actually works out that I am not doing the tune tomorrow b/c we still have to install the bottle bracket, window switch, bottle heater and blow down tube. We dressed it up a little today and ran some wires, put some rubber grommets in so the lines won't rub around the holes we drilled. In the picture of the lower plastic of the steering column you can see I have two switches mounted. The first one will be an activation switch and the second on the right is my purge. If you look at the picture of the right driver side intake we had to improvise and buy some metal brake line b/c the piece of metal that is included for the purge is just way to short to run anywhere in the car. As we all know we have limited space in our cars to work with. So that line runs all the way to the bottom of my car and pokes out a little at the very front. If you look at the picture that shows over the battery box area how we ran all the wires from the zex "brain" box and purge underneath the glove box and through to the other side for a very neat install. More pictures to come when the install is complete. Enjoy the pics guys!

Looks good bro

Hope everything works out man. Mine works fine but instead of the WOT activated I changed it to a push button activated because of the inconsistent voltage reading that wouldn't let me activate when running.

I have lots of pictures of my install just never posted because of all the negative vibe that un-educated people have about it.

In terms of how happy and bang for the buck this is. When I had my kit installed and only running a 75 shot I beat a GTM TT stage 1 370 (twice). The reaction he had afterwards was priceless.:driving:

Feel free to hit me up for any further advice. I'm always willing to help.:tiphat:

That's is classic .. I love the look of people's faces that drop tens of thousands of dollars on builds just to get their a$$ handed to them by someone on N20 . You should educate as many people as possible in regards to N20 ..

maybe if you didnt mount it on a piece of extra floor paneling people would give you a better vibe.

Honestly, who cares what these people say? I've been kind of bummed at the fact not enough people are running spray on these cars. Yet, you go over to the 350Z sites and it's a lot more common.

I love the idea of putting spray on our cars. I've been kicking the idea of doing it around because FI in general is pretty expensive for Z's (meaning, there is definitely a "z tax" by vendors) and I think spray just performs quite well.

Looking forward to your results man!

What would you have wanted him to mount it to?

"Hey man, that wood mounting is cheap. You should have mounted it on a carbon fiber diamond studded mounting board and then dipped the whole thing in gold. Anything else is uncivilized."

Really?

im all for N2O, but mounting your bottle to a block of wood is ghetto. make a mount so you can attach it to the floor of the hatch, or anything other than a stupid slab of wood......

One_Quick_Z 04-13-2012 12:14 PM

Get this thread back on track dont bash the wood block...

whoLEEoh 04-13-2012 12:42 PM

can u do a video of a 50 in 3rd gear all motor and a 50 in 3rd gear on the bottle to see the difference it makes?

Crux 04-13-2012 01:05 PM

That's a really clean setup! I like it a lot. I've been figuring the pricing for my own kit, but a shop recently quoted me at $750 for install :ugh2:

I don't think the DIY approach will work for me, I'm not inept when it comes to mechanics, but a toasted motor isn't worth the saved cash in the long run.

I don't see a reason why I can't? I won't spray though until after the tune.

Having some issues with the blow tube being short will post later tonight our fix.

BAHUMAT2JZ 04-13-2012 04:43 PM

Don't be afraid to DIY. The zex and the dynotune comes with good instruction. Hardest part of the installation is figuring out where you want to mount everything.

You have to attach a rubber hose to it .. They should make them longer ..

valpozguy 04-13-2012 06:48 PM

I'm doing the same kit on my car here so here is where I mounted my bottle

Good luck with your system! I didn't know that it cost over a g to go with laughing gas. I'm interested in how it turns out also.

The kit itself, is just above 700. You can piece a kit for cheaper but I wanted it all the same. Also adding in the other items is what bumped the cost up, I just wanted to be safe and secure when doing this.

Update Day 3 of install.

Okay guys we finally finished. The blow down tube did become an issue but I ended up getting some copper tubing and everything is a go now. The new switch that I installed is for the bottle heater. Any questions feel free to ask. Thank you all for the positive support. Question to those of you out there that are running nitrous though. I know I have asked several of you about upgrading the spark plugs. I have yet to install them b/c well will our cars run fine on them even though I am not spraying all the time? The research that I have done on our plugs is they are pretty cold already. Input is greatly appreciated.

chrischhorn 04-13-2012 10:29 PM

One step colder is always good to have for nitrous. For a second there, i looked at your blow down tube and thought to myself... "that kind of defeats the purpose" then i saw the hole lol. Nice set up though. Very clean! Dyno and numbers! then vids!

V8Killer 04-13-2012 11:01 PM

Thank you. Will most def. post vids and pics once I get the tune next week.

You won't notice any differences by going one step colder. My car drives fine off the bottle. Just check your plugs more often then normal

scarface364 04-14-2012 07:15 AM

I'm the guy helping him with the install, what gap are you guys setting the plugs at? I know usually nitrous likes a smaller gap to keep from blowing the spark out.

Lemers 04-14-2012 07:22 AM

Looks good

Sounds like we will be okay to change them out buddy.

370guy 04-14-2012 08:19 AM

Sub'd for results!

BAHUMAT2JZ 04-14-2012 11:16 AM

My plug came gapped at .032

V8Killer 04-15-2012 05:22 PM

So just gap it at that measurement?

Gap it between .032-0.35. I was out having fun last night. The car pulled hard on 100 shot. Apr was 12.5 WOT off bottle and 11.8 on bottle.
