Turbo inlet screen?

On the "other" forum there was a guy who had one of his cats self destruct, which sent metal bits into the turbo - do you use a screen or anything?

It's in the best interest of performance and turbo health to go catless with a setup like this... I'm not really a firm believer of catalytic converters to begin with, though, so whatever :tiphat:

Was that other forum MY350 aka the Douche forum aka where you go if you want to be afraid to ask questions and post your opinion? Also Cats should never be left in your exhaust system for any reason. Besides PETA getting upset, and it being a HUGE restriction in your exhaust, i'm sure a cat self destructing in your exhaust would would probably ruin the paint on your bumper as well as making your car smell like a dead animal after a while.

I have long tubes... So no cats :)

jnaut 09-15-2010 08:13 AM

There will be more pics this weekend but just been spending a lot of time on customers cars and on my aquatrax (also turbocharged) LOL

1slow370 09-16-2010 04:25 AM

Carbon Fiber Element 09-16-2010 01:50 PM

We will see. Hopefully not but I still have all my original parts.

1slow370 09-17-2010 07:39 AM

the original ones wouldn't be any better really because we don't have cast factory manifolds. what you are looking for is heat retention. Every body says it's exhaust heat that spins turbos and i know from doing a rmt that, that is crap but there is truth to it because the heat in the exhaust makes the air expand and that increases the pressure which does spool the turbo faster than air that is cooling down and causing a backup in the pipes. most of the heat is lost through the headers where the temperature delta is greatest, so with a rmt it is critical to coat and wrap exhaust components for maximum spool time reduction which equals more power, sooner. i would get the headers ceramic coated, and then wrap the whole system from the block to the turbo in heat wrap. of course jet hot would cost about $300 plus shipping and that much heat tape would be another 150 or so but the whole system could decrease the spool time by 300rpm or more, so from boost at 4000 to boost at 3700
