PM'd you, but I'll share with everyone else as well... :)

Infinity

I know they misspell Infiniti, but these guys are great.

I've heard mixed things about level 10, I have no personal experience with them though. I would do some research in the Supra world.

Wow, I just made a few call's for shumby and the tranny out here cost 10,803. That's crazy expensive!

I told him about OS Giken transmission, hopefully it was released already and is less than 10k.

Sounds good. Good luck, bro.

Do the GTM kits come with that plastic Bosch BPV? I used to run that stock in my old Saab 900 and once I got up to 360hp and 20+psi, it would flutter because the internal spring was simply not up to the task of holding back that boost or releasing it effectively.

I would definately move onto another BPV; I have had great experience with Forge personally.

Have you seen the GTM vids that show what the flutter sounds like? Did the flutter on your old Saab sound similar?

weiboy718 11-01-2010 02:00 PM

Can the fluttering be compressor surge?

i dont think so..compressor surge would normally result in some sort of stalling/power loss...

Fezzik 11-01-2010 02:29 PM

It's not compressor surge. I'm going to try a new forged bypass valve out. I ordered it last friday so I hope it comes in this week sometime.

To Shumby: when i was looking into my g37 I looked at the price of replacements for the trannys and when I saw the AT price that is what helped me decided on the manual. I really dont think the upper gears are designed to take the high torque of the s/c. Sure these are in the fxs and all but When you are in 5th gear and hammer the gas it drops you down to 3rd or lower. If you cruise in a high gear and just give it a little more gas, you are giving it more torque without the same amount of throttle. My theory. You will probably want to get a built tranny cryo treat it and all. If my 6mt goes out I am definately going to get built tranny.

Also now would be a good time to start calling some junkyards and see if there are any there.

I'm sure for half the price of the new AT you can just convert it to a 6spd.

It wasn't that rapid fluttering at part throttle but it was similar and it basically amounted to the fact that the car was trying to moderate boost at part throttle and the internal spring in the Bosch unit was too weak to deal with that type of pressure. I ran a Forge twin piston BOV for years and it was amazing in every way.

I'm really interested in the results you get with the forged bypass valve, I have been waiting on my GTM S/C kit for quite a while and I already bought a forged bypass valve. To tell you the truth that fluttering sound will drive me insane, it makes me have second thoughts on the whole deal. This is the bypass valve I bought:
