Isnt someone driving around with a TT and 450whp on a 7AT no problem. I think you will be fine Shumby.

shumby 06-18-2010 04:35 PM

I think i will be too. but i want to wait to get my trany goodies first then go with my smaller pully.

Legz 06-18-2010 04:58 PM

I thought Z1 Motorsports did a TT with 7AT Z with 456whp?

Valentino 06-18-2010 04:59 PM

Glad you and your car are safely home.

Q8y_drifter 06-18-2010 05:24 PM

First of all, it's not the psi that matters, it's the torque that kills driveline components. Not only that but it also depends on how the person drives, supporting mods (cooling, vb upgrade, etc.) as well as how the power is delivered (instant power from a roots type blower vs a big laggy turbo). There are way too many variables here to decide how much a tranny will handle and at which psi level it will blow. Sam simply played it safe and installed a 6PSI pulley. Not only for the tranny but probably also because Shumby will be driving nonstop for a full day with a car that now has 130+ more whp. Want more power? swap the pullies. It's a 20min job.

Also, the 5AT and 7AT trannies should be able to handle more than 400whp WITH supporting mods no problem. I don't know if you guys visit the G forums but there's been numerous G35 HR's and G37's with TT kits that are auto pushing 450whp and more. If it wasn't safe for those guys (some of which have been daily driving their cars for YEARS now), you'd be hearing tranny horror stories all over the forums. Not to mention Sam would not be pushing the AT's anywhere near 400whp.

DannyGT 06-18-2010 06:01 PM

Guys, its not the WHP they were worried about, they just werent sure/thought it was a good idea to start pushing that much WTQ across the the A/T. Especially with his 2300 mile drive home. Yes he could have babied it all the way home, but he clearly did not. Good call.

Doesnt matter. We will find out soon enough the difference as there seems to be a M/T G37 getting the 8psi kit installed this week.

nogoodname 06-18-2010 06:38 PM

What's so hard to understand. Shum got a safe setup so that he'll make it home safely and not have to worry about getting stuck in another country.

This car isnt yours and I could care-less what YOU would have done. A shop can never assume a client will baby his car back and I for one am glad they took the time to explain that it may be reaching the limits of the stock A/T. Smart move and proved to hold true considering how this mad man drove back. He can do the upgrades later and reflash remotely. Not as big of a deal as your making it out to be.

Shumby - I'm glad YOU got what YOU wanted out of this car. Not only is this a testament to the potential of this setup but also cements the claims by GTM. Especially for us 8psi - M/T guys.

I have never owned a BMW in my life. Now can we PLEASE keep this on topic.

I thought his country was the other country.

nuTinmuch 06-20-2010 03:46 PM

Why are people even questioning what he wanted in his car? Jesus christ, who cares. Shumby is all smiles and that means GTM did money work.

Not lets add more boost later and hope the tune is ok or can be adjusted well remotely.

As for blowing it on the way home, it doesn't matter if the car made 200hp or 600hp - if you drive it normally there is no worry. Getting it home fine is not a valid point of consideration.

Then get your own GTM kit and do it "your way".

Shumby, I'm jealous!

RCZ 06-20-2010 07:53 PM

Shumby, how about that review you promised me :)

I didn't say he was stupid, I just gave my opinion which comes from experience of having long distance work done about 6 years ago. I find your opinion of my opinion highly opinionated..

And my opinion is that you all can have your own opinion. So how many times can you use the word opinion in one sentence with meaning?

Sorry for the no updates guys. I am back in russia and missing my car. I was unable to get he hot start issues resolved. This is not Sams fault as he got me the updated flash but i could not get the cipher cable to work and could not get ahold of Sam befor i left for russia. The wife is now driving it and she says she loves it. So I only have 2 things left to do. that is install the new flash. And see if Sam can help me with getting a switch installed so that i can get my nav working again.

Shumby what S/C head unit are you guys using? Do you think its the limiting factor on why you can't run the LTH's?

Hey, what exactly was wrong with it? Can you describe the issues? I'm having a problem with mine reading lower than it should by about a 1/3 tank.

How much do you charge for SC Installation?

tjaartk 09-07-2011 03:42 AM

Hot start issues

Hi Guys,

Do you know if Shumby resolved his hot start issues?

I just installed a stg 1 sc on my 2009 370Z.

Car runs and idles perfectly, with a 14% upward adjustment at idle. Starts perfectly when cold, but won't start when hot - I have to help it with my right foot to get it going when hot. Once idling it settles down to an even idle immediately.

Definitely no vacuum leaks - I made sure on Sam's suggestion. (initially had a small leak on one of the injector o-rings which messed with the idle a bit).

Is this a tuning issue that can be solved with a reflash?

Will appreciate your advice..
