I agree with that 1000%. Not sure of the towing capacity of the Z, but it can't be anything big. A passenger used to make my S13 (CA18DET  ) feel significantly slower.
If you do it right you could see a traction / cornering power increase from coilovers and/or spacers, but I would think that you would have to do some calculations after making some test runs with your driving style.
