You can 100% leave the manual shifter in the car. Maybe weld the ball on the bottom of the lever to the chassis, and tell her its just really hard

Maybe weld the ball on the bottom of the lever to the chassis, and tell her its just really hard to shift. You can use the paddles and hide reverse/drive buttons under the seat.
