Low oil pressure!

Normal idle oil pressure is about 35 lbs. I have the warning light on my gauge set at 30 lbs. Hopefully if anything happens. I will be able to shut

Normal idle oil pressure is about 35 lbs. I have the warning light on my gauge set at 30 lbs. Hopefully if anything happens. I will be able to shut it down before damage. The factory warning light pops on at about 5 lbs.

Since the OEM sensor is just a switch... I wonder if maybe we can replace it with one that has a more meaningful threshold (like the 30# you have your warning set to).

Yes you can - as long as it's a mechanical switch and compatible with engine oil. Might have to use an adapter to match pipe threads. If you can figure out which sending unit has the setting you want, it should be an easy job. You may be able to order what you need from McMaster-Carr, et al.

Edit: And the switch action (NO or NC) needs to match.
