Default A lil help..........Turbo related.

Sooooo all the pieces are slowly coming together after finishing my BP build. Took the car over to be dyno'd and a strange thing happened as I was leaving the house to get to the shop. The "S-mode" warning popped up. I was on my way there and figured I had disconnected the connector and not completely reattached it. No biggie, I'll push it in on the lift. When I got there I turned the car off and for grins turned it back on and hit the s-mode button. Came right on with no warning, problem solved. I dropped the car off and they call me back later to say that on the third or fourth pull on the dyno every light on the dash lit up then the car lost all electrical power. To top that the shop was pretty much booked so I would'nt be able to get it on a lift till later. That was last week and later was today. Needless to say I've been pretty much sleepless knowing that somethings wrong and I don't know what. Given the amount of time I had to wonder I came to the conclusion based on watching a youtube video of a Greddy Twin Turbo 370 that I had melted the harness. I told them today to look at the transmission harness near the turbo for burnt wire and sure as hell there it was. That's the background. I just ordered a Thermal Zero Titanium blanket and I realize now that $119.00 a couple weeks ago could've saved me a whole lot of sleep literally and figuratively. I don't know without being there what's involved in that harness that runs along the side but what I do know is I raised it up but apparently not far enough seeing as I only rotated the clamp 180 degrees. Question is; will they be able to splice it or do I need a new harness and if so which one do I need. I see several on ebay for 6MT 370z but I'm not sure which to get if necessary.

The same thing happened to mine when prs aka bobby Ralston fried my ecu as well from not securing my wire harness correctly. To make a very long story short they had to pickup another ecu.. I do believe they did had to splice the wires but the ecu was toast...

I hope that's not the case. Thanks. Another self inflicted war story for me if it is.

Look at how Jwick did his install for heat management under the car with that kit. He did a knockout job. When i took my BP kit off, I was just about where you were. The wires were melted and crunchy. If i had kept going like that it was only a matter of time.

Unfortunately for me I only did the turbo manifold and not the turbo blanket. If I'd used a blanket I would've been spared the heartache. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes I guess. But that's just one more piece of good advice I can give to someone else later. That or put that harness up as far as you can possibly can instead of a token reposition.

After Cosmos post though, I'm seriously sweating about whether or not the ECU is fried. That's a whole other can of worms I don't have appetite for.

Default Update:

Went to check on the car to see for myself this morning. It may not be quite as bad as I thought. I asked them to show me the burnt wire they spotted and was expecting the turbo to be removed. The turbo was still mounted but I could see the melted wire casing. It was actually in a spot where the harness had split and the heat sleeve left about a 1 inch gap uncovered. It appears closer to the heat wrapped manifold than the turbo but either way the plastic on the outside is clearly melted. The next thing is significant. I was really digging with questions about how it happened asking about smells or sounds. They just described the tach , speedo and the oil pressure and temp gauges just going blank. I needed to get my registration out of the car and asked them to lower the lift, so when they did I open the door and notice the clutch light on , the interior lights and the nav system active. I was and asked them about it. They told me pretty much matter fact , the car starts and runs just the tach isn't working or the mph. Then it made sense to me that the oil pressure gauge and the oil temp gauge weren't working ( AFR gauge and Greddy Boost controller were working) they were wired to the factory harness for power and ground using the oem gauge connector. Then they started the car and sure as **** , it comes on and purrs but nothing in the cluster works other than the engage the clutch light and the security light. So my Turbo blanket will be here today or tommorow and they'll be looking at the harness later today or tommorow. I don't think now that I'm ECU screwed that's a plus.
