Im like wtf, took my supercharger off, pulled both cam spocket covers off, got a scope in there.....

and the oil gallery gasket has come apart... grreeaatttt.

I have to pull the whole front of the engine off. not happy.

Check your oil pressure guys!!! if it reads low, its most likely this problem.

Glade I have a oil press gauge, otherwise I probably would have taken out my engine.

That's a bummer!

I was lucky. Decided to change mine as part of the build. Just started to fail.

This has got me all scurr'd... When did Nissan upgrade the oil gallery gaskets? (i.e. which model years will have the paper-only versions?)

JWillis72 02-11-2016 05:03 PM

Looking at this I'm thinking if it was the belt slipping it started around 4500 rpm Because that's where the hp changes directions, would you guys agree?

Man it does look to me like it is slipping. Cant be the back though because that was tight as hell.

StillenZ84 02-11-2016 06:02 PM

What was the boost at when it started going crazy? It shouldn't have been too high which makes me kind of think it isn't slipping. To slip at such low rpm the belt would have to be noticeably loose. But the readout looks like mine did when my belt was slipping at around 6800 rpm wavy like that.

JWillis72 02-11-2016 06:07 PM

This is the dyno before we tightened the belt, I'm trying to figure out where to add fuel to the tune in case it starts making more boost. I'm not really sure where the boost was but I would guess 6 because thats where it stopped.

JWillis72 02-11-2016 06:27 PM

The trans held almost 9 doing it Nissans way. Tuner is working on a flash, the car is getting strapped to the dyno tonight to be ready to run tomorrow.

Nissan upgraded the gallery gaskets at the end of 2011, most 2012 cars "should" have the revised type

This affects the 350z HR engine also same part numbers needed

You need (These are my descriptions not Nissans)

1 23797-EY01A VVEL Cover gaskets
1 23797 - JA10B VVEL cover gasket

6 13042 - 3HD0A VVEL oil seal

2 15066 - JA10A Upper oil gallery seal

1 13533 - JK21A Upper gallery plate gasket*
1 13533- JK21B Lower gallery plate gasket*
1 13510- 31U10 Crank oil seal (optional)

*as said these are the ones that fail

Jwillis. Per my alcohol infused conversation last night. This really looks to me like it isn't your belt giving way, but the BPV was. Good thing you put that Bosch back on since you know it will hold boost. This dates back a while when we discussed that but you haven't had a chance to re-dyno with that one.

The bosch valve will not fail at any given boost amount (well within reason). Plastic is actually very strong and there is not enough pressure in the system to cause it any harm. However, where the problem lies is in the size of the valve. It is just too small to get all that air through it so with high boost it simply can not purge the amount of air the supercharger is forcing at it.

You will be fine in the short run with it though.

Well bad news for me, the upper oil gallery plate gasket was ripped, but the timing plate where the gallery plate mounts has 3 cracks!!!!.

this easy job just turned into a nightmare. I have to remove all the timing, cam spokets, everything! (I hate timing these cars!!!) ill have to send the back timing cover to a welding shop, have them re weld it and put it back together. Im trying to find a used one but not having any luck.

Anyways, Willis, Good luck today!

I think everythings going to work out for you man!

im excited for results!

It's easier to talk to someone when you have been drinking if they have been drinking also! If my math is right I expected my boost to be about 12-12.5 but that was before the long tube headers. I'm guessing the psi will drop to 10-11 with them and I think the Bosh is good to 11 psi so we should be good.

Thanks Evo! I'm just waiting for him to call me and say they are ready then I will go straight there, I'm lucky to have a job that I can work when I want as long as it gets done. The shop doesn't open until 10 and he usually spends the first hour on calls and email. If he hasn't called me by noon- 1pm I will be showing up. It may not be 100% tuned today but hes not leaving that place without me knowing if it's making more boost and I told him that last night!

Shitt. And I just threw one away.
