EVO-R 370Z Rear Diffuser

Might be a silly question but is a rear diffuser good for anything other than looks? I've seen them on other performance cars before and just can't wrap my head

I've seen them on other performance cars before and just can't wrap my head around why otherwise beautifully styled cars add this modification. Not meant to be offensive but maybe I'm missing something. Otherwise to each their own.
