Default more door problems

Alright so last night the door lock was frozen into the lock position.
I still have an hour left here at work but I went out to my car and the driver door wont shut.
I close it and it doesnt catch. Or latch or something. It just bounces back. How am I going to drive home?? I held the door shut and locked it and now it wont open. Regardless if its in the locked or unlocked position it wont open again. Back out the passenger side and to the dealership I go again tomorrow.

WD40. spray it in the door's latch/lock area. that would be my last resort.

btw, you might want to double check if your gas door opens too.... would suck if you're running close to empty and cant put gas in.

Gas tank door opens. But damn this weather blows. 20 below zero again and the local high school got two days off in a row now for it being too cold

Maybe the water freezing over displaced the grease on the locking mechanism? I would spray some lithium grease in there to see if it helps. Or shove lots of actual grease in the door hinge latch, and keep opening and closing the door. Did wonders on my beater's trunk hatch when I did that.

I flew a 1968 PA-28-180 the other day. God I was shocked to see what the cold did to that thing. Things did not operate/move the right way due to cold grease and cables. Could very much well be the grease!

I wouldn't start spraying lube everywhere since the latch mechanism is probably just frozen. Once you get the door thawed out, use a hair dryer or similar to dry all the door/latch parts. If that doesn't solve the problem, then I would look into using a grease that won't get too thick in sub-zero weather.

does the car even starts? Because when the battery is out or the wire gets loose/disconnected from the battery, the door lock doesn't work and like how you said, door bounces off when you try to close the door. Just saying, fyi

My 350 did this from time to time, ended up being a bad actuator, it did not want to work when it was cold, after that one year in the winter, the civic went into winter service.

My money is on the cold weather causing the problem, melt water getting in there during the day and freezing up over night. Happened with previous cars even thought the car looked dry, took 20+ min with a hair dryer to get it to open.

PS Miata doors never have these issues.

These issues never happened overnight.
It was fine when I got in my car to go to work and frozen when I left work. It stayed at a constant 20 below zero with windchill the whole day. The only difference being it had protection from the wind in my garage before I took it to work
