Default Fender vents??

So on a top gear Jeremy said the 458 has fender vents because when the cars at speed the wheel creates air pressure in the fender. So the vents are there to keep the car down and create down force. The Japanese STI S206 also has them. What about the 370z?

The Ferrari has it built in more than just vents, it's a combination of a lot of flexible and variable speed aerodynamics that makes real down force. If you just turned where most people had their brake cooling ducts into vents to the fender, I can't see just that, even with several other front end mods giving any appreciable downforce unless you are an aerodynamics engineer and/or are a part of the more money than brains club to have something made that actually works

^^^Unless you're venting the fender liners... Then you are just adding those for looks. And since there are no instructions to cut holes in your fenders, those are for looks

It seems simple enough ( in theory ) to cut a hole in the fender and fender liner to allow pressure to escape.

The question is, how will it look, and will it make a noticeable difference?

Keep in mind that ferrari would be willing to add this feature even if it only makes a slight difference at near 200 mph.
Not saying that's a fact, just pointing out their priorities are different than most.

Unless you have a wind tunnel to test it in or a ludicrous amount of horsepower to contend with that could actually attain the speeds necessary for this kind of downforce, you're just cutting up your car for no reason.

Generally this technique doesn't benefit the car that much at speeds under 60 mph. I don't recall the exact number from wind tunnel tests but its not as simple as simply cutting a hole in your fender. The design has to not add drag for it to work properly. The design that seems to work well with minimal customization is...

I don't like the look of it but I know it works okay. If you want to make it look really cool and be functional you are looking at a lot of custom work and testing. Usually messing with aerodynamics too much just hurts performance.

Not asking how, asking more for looks. Install the S206 vents.

We don't really test for custom splitters or all the aftermarket wings. We just do it. Like I did with my custom hood vent. If any car can build pressure within the wheel well, venting it anyway can be beneficial. I understand speed though. But most tracks we can get to say 150mph so ill take and down force I can get.

I don't know why but I always think that these fenders would allow so many rocks to fling into your car ..... So does anyone have long term daily driving experiences with these type of fenders ?

The Ferrari vent doubles as an ashtray for those euro smoke-inhaling nicotine-addicted bloods. BTW, most streets in Italy will not allow you to drive so fast that downforce is needed.

Why bother? At most you're throwing money away by replacing the liners.
