Lightbulb Emblem Adhesive

Good morning, does anyone know offhand what the name of the OEM adhesive is called that Nissan uses to attach their brand badges to the front and rear of the car?

I have an emblem off and would like to reattach it properly without utilizing 3M 2 sided tape, which I know will work but would just rather use factory OEM stuff.

From the looks of the residue left on the car it almost looks like a injected type material, tar like.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I was going to suggest the same thing, but he specifically said "no 3m". It's still the way to go, OP. Get the adhesion promoter stuff, and clean the paint really well.

How do you know the OEM stuff isn't 3M?

The FSM will sometimes list non-Nissan tools and consumables.

yah, you can use 3M mounting tape for exterior or automotive.

i suppose if you want to go the extra mile, get some VHB tape, but that imo is overkill for something small like emblems.

i used to work at a body shop before i got a real job. worked on my own 370z. 99% sure factory adhesive is almost exactly the same as the 3m product, just depends on the thickness you desire. i've reattached emblems with the 3m product and there is no difference and not noticeable.

yep, i wouldn't be surprised if nissan and bodyshops are buying the same 3M tapes.

3M has a HUGE selection of tapes so it's a matter of getting the right one for the application. which sometimes can be pretty confusing...

for me, i try not to use liquid adhesives because it's usually irreversable. just in case down the road you want to remove or swap emblems (for watever reason including corrosion or scratch), the superglue can tear off the paint.
