Interest check - ~Kellyefields~ custom hood damper kit

****THIS IS NOT A FOR SALE THREAD****
Just gauging interest.

So forum user ~kellyefields~ used to make a really nifty hood damper kit that won't bow your hood like the Z1/EVO-R kits are rumored to do. Saw one of hits kits on a MAZOC Z the other weekend and really liked it.

He is going to come out of retirement to build me a kit but asked that I see if I can drum up a little more interest so that he's not just buying parts for me.

Original thread here:

http://www.the370z.com/parts-sale-pr...ml#post1102129

So far:
7 definite orders
2 "maybe"
(between both this thread and the mid-atlantic discussion thread)

Kelly says pricing will be $90 per kit (pretty awesome by itself) if we get 5 people, $80 per kit if we get 10 and so on.

I would be IN..

Mr&Mrs 01-22-2013 09:45 PM

Im already in on this as well he needs a handfull of people to jump on this or it is not worth his time. There is pretty much no profit in this kit taking labor into account.

simota1 01-23-2013 01:04 AM

Yah his a really nice guy :D

BlKsUbYkId 01-23-2013 01:48 AM

IN!

xxAGAVExx 01-23-2013 07:15 AM

Man, I just got the Z1 dampers last weekend or I would have been in. 😞

Count me in.

Any comparisons to the Z1 kit?

So...just to be clear...

1-4 ---- $90
5 ---- $80
10 ---- $70
15 ---- $60
20 ---- $50
25 ---- $40
30 ---- $30
35 ---- $20
40 ---- $10
50 ---- $00 (!?!)

dmhenderson 01-23-2013 10:52 AM

Well it's about 1/3 the cost and it doesn't bow your hood on the driver's side like the Z1 kit does.

TheGreatOne 01-23-2013 10:52 AM

I would be in

Just one question, do these open half way and full, or just full? I've seen some struts claim to do both

Haha I'm thinking that's not the case. I don't know when the price bottoms out. I'll ask him to post in this thread.

I know, I'm just messing :icon18:

I did read the FAQ on that original kelly's thread and the bowing out might be due to installer error. But I double checked everything I did with my Z1 as well as have someone else remove and install it a second time, and the same thing happened...soooo if these actually do start to sell and no bulge in the hood, I might be interested as well.

I'm not sure. I have asked him to come post in this thread.

DarkJak 01-23-2013 11:10 AM

I'd definitely be in if these can open both halfway and full. Price would really matter if its just full though.

The Dimer 01-23-2013 11:26 AM

I have one of his original kits, before he updated that bracket and the dampers. Tell him I'd be in for an "upgrade kit" if he's willing to sell the parts he changed from the original design.

dmhenderson 01-23-2013 11:38 AM

I've asked him to post in this thread.

The opening only opens full. Now what someone can do if they want a kit to only open half way is to use some type of catch that only allows the strut to open so far. But I designed this kit to open the hood the maximum it could open to have room to work.

Pricing the price starts to bottom out at 70 but to get there I would have to have close to 25 confirmed orders to get there.

For those that have the original kit and want the upgraded hinge, which is what I am assuming it what you are after I can make that happen as well.

It was my understanding that the mounting stud on the wheel well (that's what I'm calling it) stays the same, but that you revised the mounting bracket on the hood and also shorted the strut a inch. It's been a while, though.

dmhenderson 01-23-2013 01:38 PM

I'm stoked. I'll have this kit plus my nice red silicone hoses installed come show season.

Nice! So the brackets and the new struts are what I'd need, I guess. Why did you go with a shorter strut again?

the shorter strut was just a better fit and you do not have to push the hood back as far to get it on. plus the strut has less pressure so you do not have to worry about it flying up to fast and is easier to pull down.

Sounds great. I'm ready for a new set of struts and hood brackets when you are.

kellyefields 01-23-2013 02:42 PM

right now I am trying to find a supplier that does not want to charge a arm and a leg for the parts. may take me a couple of days but I am getting there.

MACSIMIZER 01-23-2013 03:15 PM

I have these on my car and love them.

lhinojos 01-23-2013 03:40 PM

IN.

Illmatic370z 01-23-2013 03:52 PM

I'd be in.

AreJay 01-23-2013 06:20 PM

I'm in.

kellyefields 01-25-2013 01:04 PM

OK so I was able to find a supplier for the parts. My original supplier wanted to much so had to find someone else but I was able to get a better part for around the same price which is good. here are the details It will be about 10 days for me to get these out. I will update the timeline as I get the parts in. it will be first come first serve since I will have limited quanities.

ORDERING INFO
total cost Shipped to:
US Priority USPS 3 days = $90
Change due to shipping costs Canada USPS = $110
Australia USPS = $110

Just to give you a breakdown the parts are 75 for the set. 5 is due to AK for the forum and I estimate 10 for shipping to the us, 30 to canada, and 30 to australia. If you have a group from your area PM me and you can save on the shipping.

I accept paypal to Kellyefields@yahoo.com and please remember to add the 3% paypal fees because these are made at cost of the materials alone so my labor is free and so as you can see if you forget to pay the fees it cost me more than just my time. add your shipping address as well. Dont forget to put your username on paypal so I know who you are.

So for those that are too lazy to do the math. These are the 'actual' prices:

US Priority = $92.70
Canada USPS = $103
Australia USPS = $113.30

got any proof to that? i've had my z1 hood dampers on for about 2 months now with at least 20-30 open/closes and my hood looks perfect still. couldnt find anything on the forum about this either??

dmhenderson 01-26-2013 08:23 AM

Yeah a couple people with the Z1 kit have complained about it. Pintsize was one of them. If you search there are a couple threads with people complaining about the Z1/EVO-R kits.
