The only issue with what you're suggesting is it blocks quite a bit of vision at that corner. If your'e ok with the blind spot, then no problem. The single pod is the least intrusive option..

I personally think it looks better than running up the pillar (at least from the drivers seat). It is different and might not be everyones cup of tea. I did a temporary mock-up for a forum member and took a picture. I'll see if I still have the picture.
