Default Fog Lamp install with DIY harness question

I just want the fog lamp wired to the license plate lights, so it'll turn on when my lights are automatically turned on at night.
From what I gathered on simota1's photos in his DIY guide, I just need to get some red and black wire and link them together, after I snip off the harness off of the fog lamp. Is this correct? And how much wire do I need to get? Thank you

The included photo is what I'm assuming is what I need to do.

I took photos under the car and got even more confused. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to get the wires connected now. The harness that's already there is a dud according to what I've read from some posts. If the wire hose above the beam is the license plate light, then I don't know how I'm supposed to connect that cause it has no play to be tugged down.
I don't want to go the entire disassembly of the trunk panels if I can help it.

looks like someone already messed with that area. Those spade plugs weren't on mine.

I'll also suggest when tapping the license plate wires that you don't use the bright 7440 bulb it comes with. It puts a strain on that circuit. Either move to leds or mod a 7443 bulb to use the 5 watt filament instead of the 25 watt filament.

how do you modify the fog lamp to take a different bulb? i don't have the lamp yet so i don't know how i'd go about opening it up. is it simply a twist out and pop in a new bulb deal, like with the headlights?
would this be a good match: 7443 LED Bulb - Dual Intensity 15 LED | LED Lights for Cars | 12v | Super Bright LEDs

That'll work, but I suggest you get one that outputs light all around, not directional:

13-SMD 5050 LED White T20 7440 7443 992 Bulb Turn Signal Corner Light Lamp Car | eBay

Car Xenon White 68 SMD SMT LED T20 992 7440 7443 Light | eBay

Also, some people go with red LEDs because the white is TOO white and makes the light look almost pink

Yeah, twist out, you'll see, it's really easy

Awesome thanks guys. I'll look for a red led replacement when I get the fog lamp.
