Default self locking doors

as i was going to work today i unlocked my car with my key fob. car was in garage i was in the kitchen. i know the car unlocked because i saw the dome light come on. put my key fob on kitchen counter to get something from out of my room. when i get back and go to get into my car i hear the doors lock.

i had left the fob on the kitchen counter. this all took place in about 3 to 4 minutes. so is there some kind of safety feature built into the car. that if you unlock your car but leave the fob out of range and try to open your doors after 5 minutes or so, and you do not have the fob, the doors auto lock as you approach you car.

In my Armada if you unlock but don't open a door they will relock after a minute or so. My guess it is the same with the Z but I haven't ever tried.

Both my Z and Altima do this. If you unlock the car but don't actually open any door it will lock itself again in ~3 mins or so.

In my Mazda6, if I hit unlock on the fob once, it unlocks the driver door, but locks again after about 15-30 seconds. If I double hit the unlock button, it unlocks all four doors and will not lock after so many seconds.

It's happened to me too.

I'm guessing it's a safety feature in case you accidentally pushed the unlock button.

+1 for Nissan actually doing something like this though

oh and for gee whiz info. If you have your fob in a jacket and unlock the door using the button on the door handle do not toss your jacket in the car and close the door. It will lock and your fob is now inside. Ask me how I know this

That's odd. I've attempted to lock the fob in the cabin of my Z (on accident) several times, and every time, the car beeps at me and unlocks the door.

It was weird shadoquad but one of those things that sucked. It was this spring and had a jacket on and was leaving from work. Got out to the lot and just unlocked the passenger door with the door handle button. Says to myself, self it's a nice afternoon take your jacket off and throw in on the passenger seat. Did that, closed the door and walked to the drivers side to get in and the car was locked up nicely.

And you couldn't hit the locks on either of the doors? Wasn't the jacket in range of the door handles? hmmmm

That's crazy, dude!

Trust me I was hitting the buttons and cussing up a storm. Even tried the ol' coat hanger through the side to try and hit the unlock button but all stopped short once it looked like I was going to rip the window seal. Had to get a ride home to get the spare fob and a ride back.

That's really odd. I used to warn people not to leave your key fob inside the car and lock the car then leave for a totally opposite reason. Coz now, everyone can open the door by push the button on the door handle.

Like guys have mentioned normally if you were to unlock the door via the button on the door with the remote on oneself and happen to throw the keys in the car and manually hit the lock door switch either on the door or switch and close the door? what supposed to happen is you'd get an alarming beeping noise from the car warning something is wrong and at the same time the door is supposed unlock.

Now why it didn't do this is something that needs to be looked at.

Normally if you unlock it with the remote nearby and don't open the doors? it will re-lock like people have already mentioned.
