FYI, I installed the 10 sq. ft. sample this past weekend and shot some video. Not sure when I'll have it edited and ready to post but it should be sometime mid week.
Results: - Installed in the trunk - Noticeably quieter at idle - Really easy to install and adhere - Sample came in just a few days, great customer service! Used an iPhone app as a basis to measure the decibel levels before and after. At idle before = 56, after = 52 The main reason I wanted to test the deadening material was to reduce the drone created by my F.I. exhaust at about 70mph (2800rpm) on the freeway. When you step on the gas a bit there is a tone that reverberates in the cabin and is kinda annoying. While I don't mind it much, my passengers do. @70 mph before the install = 77-82 decibels, after = 77-78. So there was a measurable difference, however it wasn't really noticeable to me, at least not while on the freeway. I'm sure if I installed some more in the roof/hatch area, it would greatly help. All video and measurements were taken on the same roads and measured multiple times, so it should be fairly accurate.

i bought and installed 50 sqft. pulled the whole interior and got it done in a day.
- Product was easy to work with. - roller was absolute garbage. Broke within and hour, too much with the man hands i guess. i bought a tool box caster and used that to roll a majority of the product flat. - there has been a little odor in the car here and there but barely noticeable. GREAT PRODUCT, WELL WORTH THE PRICE. SEND ME MORE STICKERS! thinking of buying a little bit more and doing the roof.

I installed the sample you guys sent over the weekend and didn't get a chance to drive the car until today. Since 10 sq.ft. isn't a whole lot to work with, I applied it to where I thought most of the noise was coming from, the rear wheel wells. 10 sq.ft. was enough to cover both sides, with a little left over. If you guys get just the sample to try it out, I suggest this area because you do reduce a noticable amount of road noise. It just about knocked out those little "ticking" noises hitting the wheel well when driving over not so clean road. It might just be me, but my exhaust also sounds "cleaner" since I'm not hearing as much road noise.
I'll definitely order more of this stuff in the future. I just need to set aside time to do it because it can be time consuming to install. Overall, the product does work, but there are other areas that need to be addressed. I'll add some pics later.

Yeah I can confirm those numbers, I used a studio db meter and on average it cut out 3db at idle, and 5-6db at 70mph. Not bad for just 10sqft of the 50mil. Image what it would sound like if you had 100sqft of the 80mil!

I was able to complete the GTMat installation yesterday. First, I apologize for the grainy pics and bad lighting. It was raining both days while I did this so I just left the car in the garage.
Removing the interior panels: ![]() Everything removed (the next day lol): ![]() GTMAT installed! ![]() I did have a few leftover strips that I slapped over the wheel wells after the last pic. Using the 10 sq. ft. I was able to cover maybe 1/2 the hatch area. It looks like more, but there is a lot of vertical surface left uncovered. The product is pretty easy to work with and total installation time probably ran 2.5 hours. I'm sure I could go quicker now after working with the product and understanding how to remove all the interior panels. I was able to mold it into place without much trouble leaving very few points where contact isn't 100%. I can't say I'm looking forward to completing the job since the remaining areas are going to be more difficult, but after hearing the results of partial coverage, it is something I plan on doing. My exhaust is pretty loud, and the tire/wheel combination definitely adds to the road noise. I only have the base stock sound system (something else on the to-do list) so I can't comment on any improvement there. Upon starting the car, I immediately noticed the exhaust was slightly quieter inside the cabin. The road noise reduction was also apparent, but not as noticeable. I didn't measure decibels, but there was some noticeable improvement from partial coverage on a very loud car. I do believe the additional reduction in noise with 100% luggage and door coverage will be worth it and would be even more so for a stock Z. I may wait a couple of months for the weather to cool off and hopefully do some speaker replacement at the same time, but I will be completing the job using GTMat. |
