Default My Nismo GT500 Shift Knob: Question

Hey everyone,

Well I am still counting down the days until the end of this deployment (26) and I get to see my car (waiting for me in the garage still). So I am sitting here with this titanium shift knob that I bought from SuperAutobacs (performance store in japan) and am starting to wonder: What is with the multiple pieces? It seems that the shift knobs most people have gotten are one piece that screws on. This one has basically an allen bolt on the top that sets into that larger bolt in the pic. There are 10mm threads on the bottom of the titanium knob (the one on the left, that I got) which thread onto the Z. So what is with the other pieces? Other Japanese car models? I know it also fits GT-R Skyline... is that odd or what?

Brian

I would think you put the larger bolt on first and then place the boot between the two and tighten the knob down. Possibly to keep the boot in place. But I am completely guessing based on the one pic.

Default Think I found an answer:

Ok, I think I may have found the answer to my question. Unfortunately, I am not quite sure what it means! So the bolt inside the knob tightens the sleeve. I am assuming this is for a race shifter with a smooth shaft? (haha) Or am I way off?

"This GT Titanium Shift Knob is made commercially with the use of titanium material, and is exactly the same as the shift knob installed in the NISMO Skyline GT-R/GT500 class (as participated in the Japanese GT championship series). The knob is made of lightweight & exotic material: titanium alloy. A NISMO logo is professionally laser-etched on the knob.

Installation method is the same process as the one used for GT500 race machines. Installation is by tightening the steel sleeve from the knob point which is inserted into the shift knob with a bolt. All installation parts are included in the installation kit. There are two types of shift knobs offered, one for the Nissan 5-speed manual cars, and the other is the Nissan 6-speed manual cars.

There is also two types of material Lightweight Titanium or Soft Urethane."

Just a "Universal" knob with alternate sleeves depending on you shaft thread.
(M10 x 1.25 on the Z BTW, same as a Miata)

you put the bolt on then the knob on top of it then you use like an allen wrench/ hex key tool to tighten it.

i had both the titanium and the black rubber for my Z
