gutting car

I am going to be gutting the inside (sound proofing with second skin materials) and was curious if anyone could help me with some tips on how to pull out the plastic panels without damaging them.

Most of the panels just pop off. You might have to give some a pretty good tug, but they should pop out.

My personal opinion though is to leave the interior in. Don't be surprised if gutting all of the plastics/carpet, etc. saves you less than 100 lbs. Especially if you are going to add sound deadening material. Unless you are building it for time attack or some sort of competitive motorsport its not worth it IMO.

I hope you are building a race car because otherwise this is only going to be annoying.

But....you didnt get the KW clubsports...so you aren't really building a full out race car....what are you trying to do?

Sounds like he is adding sound proofing and then reinstalling the panels.

sorry, I wasn't clear in my intentions fellas.

I am wanting to soundproof and reinstall the panels. The road noise from the tires is driving me crazy. I am not making a race car or track car. Weight is not a issue, so some second skin material for sound proofing doesn't bother me at all.

agreed, my little things need to get re-adjusted already. I drove someone elses car today and followed mine with my buddy driving. Man...its so low, the exhaust is hanging soooo close to the ground.

If you tear out all the mats and pads from the trunk then the exhaust does get a fair bit louder inside the car. Sounds pretty good actually.

Right, but then I don't have any mats. lol I was just looking at exhausts before you posted. Maybe I was on a weird site but they were all well over $1k. I put an exhaust on the Lotus for like $750. Is it really going to be twice as much for the Z? I feel like I have pw'ed his thread. Maybe we should move this somewhere else.

Don't be afraid to pull hard. Most of this stuff is just clips and if they do break they're cheap.
