Default Great Safety Mod!!

So one of my first mods was the JDM fog light install. I thought it looked so good and I was really pissed off our cars did not come with it. Anyways, I installed the fog light but I converted it to a blinking 4th brake light. What I did not take into account was the reaction of drivers behind me. When I brake the Fog light blinks for about 4 seconds and then converts to a steady light. This makes the car behind me stay away a good 5 to 7 feet in general! They stop to see the fog light!! it's great and this reaction is seen in about 90 percent of drivers! So if you don't like dumb a$$es who stay right behind your tail, then definitely convert your JDM fog light to a brake light. I guarantee it it will keep people a good distance away. Sorry NISMO owners!

Make sure that type of lighting is legal in your state.

Did you have the LED version or the regular one?

The JDM. It's brighter than the Evo R LED version IMO

I was under the impression the Foglight only raised a legality issue when running as a DRL, not as a brake light? I could be wrong but I thought the brake aspect keeps it legal.

I've run flashing brake taillights on motorcycles for years without an issue. It becomes more of an issue if it used as a flashing running light.

I've never had a problem. it flashes for 4 seconds by then becomes steady and it's red so it should be perfectly legal.

Any idea on how the schematic looks like when tapping brake light with 4 sec flashes.

I would rather just have a switch to control for example a EvoR light to function like this, On, Off, Flash. I would probably only set to flash in rain or fog, or maybe for some dumbas$ ricer riding my a$$.

You purchase this relay.

Blinking Smart Stop - Flashing Brake Light

and you install it between the power source and the actual fog light. If you purchase the fog light from Z1 motorports, it includes a great schematic on how to install you fog light for various functions, i.e. reverse, brake, fog, turn whatever you like.

If prefer the brake function because you utilize this safety feature more often than say, using it as a fog light for foggy conditions and/or rain.

This site tells you this type of function is legal because this relay converts your light to a steady one after 4 seconds. I believe that if it remains blinking, it then becomes illegal as only the hazards should be blinking in dangerous conditions.

Happy modding!
