Question Covering The Ugly Airbag Warning Viser Placards???

I've been here long enough to feel familiar with threads I've seen and not seen, and I don't remember a single discussion about anyone figuring out a creative way to either remove or cover up those friggin' ugly and distracting air bag warning placards on the visors.

So did I miss it? Has it already been discussed? If so, please link the thread here.

If not, has anyone done this? Can they be removed? Or are there after market visors we can buy? Or cheapest & easiest, has anyone came up with a great "cover up" solution?

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks ---- Bonzo

Yep, I missed those. Thanks frost.

Looks like a sticker, a cover or a new visor is the way to go.

If someone on the forum wants to step up and make a solid decal to cover over at a reasonable price, I'm sure they can sell a hundred easy.

Just look at Simota1's fuel gauge overlay....

Here's what I did to my '04 visor's.
I went to JoAnn Fabric & bought some black leather material to match my black visors.
Made & Cut out a cardboard template covering the warning section.
Bought waxed shoe laces for my border.
Ran an ad in the classifieds & would pay anyone who sent me their rear 350Z badge for $10 shipped.

Cut very thin stirps of double sided clear tape & taped on the back side of the Z logo & attached to the center of the leather section. (I did not want to use super glue) Cut off the ends of the shoe laces, & ran them under cold water, placed shoe lace around the edges of the cardboard template & left them set for a couple of days....once firm, glued the laces around the edges of the leather section.

Some guys made a thick stitched Z logo but I wanted a OEM Z style on mine.

Now THIS is what I'm talking about.

This is a cool idea. I'm planning to remove my rear 370Z badging, so I could in theory do what you did. Thanks!

Now anyone else got any other things they did? Honestly, I can't beleive there isn't a flood of people doing this. Not only are those things ugly, but they are distracting when you drive, like a reflective light up there.

Scroll down a little on this link... I am sure there is one out there that says VQ37 rather then what is on the link... Kinda funny though..

Has anyone done a DIY for taking the visors off?

I want to take them off so I can carry it in a fabric store. I'm also going to try scanning the fabric and printing a label. We have a high end large format printer here at work so it should look good.

I just need to know the easiest way to remove them from the car.

Thanks ---- Bonzo

Default Got The Visor Off.....

So since no one replied to my last question, I decided to tackle taking them off it myself. I used a plastic panel removing tool with a 90 degree bend to act as a lever. Then starting at the side towards the back of the car, started applying pressure. At first I was like, man, I'm gonna totally pop this thing. But then it did come loose a bit, so I kept prying. Then finally, POP, and off it came. The good news is I got it off and 2 of the 3 locking tabs were fine. Bad news the one locking tab in the corner broke a very small chunk off the cover. It's not really a big deal, because I don't think I'll ever even see it. I might try some glue before putting it back on, but I doubt that will hold.

And then the two screws that hold the visor bracket. Holy bejezuz Batman, are those Philips head screws on tight. Like they must have used loc-tite or something because it was all I had to get those 2 screws loose with out stripping the Philips head. But in the end I won. Then it was just a matter of dropping the visor and unclipping the mirror light wire.

So now I have 3 optional plans of attack on this:

Note: All options involve me making a perfect sized template in CAD software and cutting it via computer cutting machine. I have access to these things via work where I use this all the time.

A: Use black 3M di-noc carbon fiber vinyl to cover the sticker. Now that I have the visor off, and now that I have had my radio trim done with real matte carbon fiber by Tony, I think this is a good option. I have compared the 3M vinyl Carbon Fiber to the real thing, and they aren't too far off actually. And the 3M stuff doesn't blend too bad with the visor either. I think this is a good chance of winning the options race.

B: Scan the visor fabric in and use photoshop and/or illustrator to tweak the color, then print it on our high end pressure sensitive paper stock. This paper handles moisture well, and should hold up goo I think. A stronger option would be to have my nephew print it on auto wrapping material, but I don't really want to bother him with this trivial thing. After cutting, I will just use a dark gray marker to carefully color the very edge of the paper.

C: Same as option B, except just get a good matching solid color gray instead of scanning the fabric.

So that's where I'm at right now with this. Too busy to really get to it right now. Just thought pop in here at lunch to make the update.

Cheers ---- Bonzo

Default Clips pic

Here are 2 pics of the back of the main mounting plate. I don't have the clip on cover (that broke a bit) with me here. But, in these pictures you can visually see the 3 areas the clips go into. They are on the left, right, and bottom of these 2 pics.

Default 3M Di-Noc Carbon Fiber

I have to say for ease of accompishing and overall look, I think this may the way to go for sure.

Here are some pics with a hand cut piece of scrap material. Keep in mind it's almost impossible to take pictures of this material and have it come out looking like real life. So I took a bunch of pics with and without flash from various light angles. I think it looks good in real life.

These are taken without flash on.
