I must be getting jacked on my quotes. I was curious about having my wheels and door handles color matched to my car. $1000, provided I take the wheels and door handles off the car for them. I also decided to find out about tinting my rear windows and a very light tint to my tail lights. $600. So any DIY stuff like Plasti Dip wins out IMO. The only thing I don't like is the feel on the door handles, too plasticy (That's not a word but you know what I'm getting at). FYI for anyone doing this, make sure you start EARLY in the day if you're going to do your wheels as it will take several hours and painting in the dark SUCKS. |

Yeah I'm definitely not paying that much. Actually I did paint my brake calipers and they turned out pretty well.
Just in case you're wondering, here is that aftermath of the tire change |

Ghetto tire shop. Do I need to say anything else?
I have gotten all the plasti dip off my wheels and they are finally back to stock color. Had to use goo gone to get all of it off and it worked amazingly well. |

I might try to do it on Sunday if I have time. How many cans of primer, paint, and clear do you think I will need? I think 1-2 cans of primer, 2-3 of paint, and 1-2 of clear might be good.

Going on the powder coat subject, I've been thinking about getting my base rims done in a gunmetal color, then doing the protruding edge on each of the 5 spokes in a white. I have to try to shop up some pics to get a visual.

After painting my handles 3 times.. I decided plastidip is not the best option for durability... So I removed it and used primer+paint matte black spray instead, it looks smoother and it can be retouched anytime. As for durability it seems to be more scratch resistant than plastidip.

Yeah I've reached the same conclusion. Plastidip is a good, cheap, temporary solution to keep me happy till I can afford my carbon fiber pieces.

I think plasti dip is good only to get an idea of how something will look before you make a permanent change. I think badges/emblems might be the only thing you can keep plasti dip on for a long time without issues. I've moved on from plasti dip to paint.

The thing that I still like about it is that it's a good protectant for your paint. There's been a couple times on the highway where a rock hit my fangs, but didn't do any damage because of the plastidip.

When I was pulling the plasti dip off my wheels, some of the parts that had gotten really hot took some of the wheel's original finish off with it. I'll take a pic of it tomorrow to show you guys what I'm talking about. This might have to do with my new brake set up though since it seems to get much hotter than the stock setup. I installed Carbotech XP8's a month ago and also took my car on a track session. Guess some parts of my wheels got a bit too hot at some point there.
