Unhappy Tiny Rock vs 80mph moving windshield

So I was driving on the autobahn to work this morning and as the title claims my windshield met the wrath of the Tiny Rock . As I was passing a two 18-wheelers...I didn't even see it coming! All I heard was that horrible rovk hitting the windshield sound. At that moment I knew it was harder than when other rocks hit in the past. So it isn't a big crack but it did chip the glass and that can only get worse... I will post pics once I get home.

Just get it patched and you wont have to worry about it getting any worse. Its free with most auto insurance coverage.

I called the place around recommended by a few people and I'll be going there tomorrow after work to get it fixed.

The only chipped windshield I've experienced subsequently developed a crack within 5 minutes of the 'hit'. Then the crack propagated across the windshield right before my eyes. No repairing that one.

samething happened to me. I was changing lane behind a 18 wheeler and a rock hammered my windshield. Got a nice 1 foot crack. Got it replaced for about $250.

Question to those who had their windshields replaced: are the a-pillar covers attached via clips that you pop off or do you have to open the door and get behind the weather stripping and unscrew them?

Thanks! Looking forward to the pics.

If I do have to get mine replaced I would much rather remove the a-pillar covers and cowl myself and just have them put new glass in and me put the rest back myself for the exact same reason you stated - no scuffed paint.

In my last ride I had the same thing happen not two months into ownership. I was actually able to see the rock hurling at my windshield, but there was absolutely nothing i could do My insurance covered it at no charge.

I guess this is a good thread to express my epic fail last monday. I was driving out of the MVA (because I was trying to get an officer to sign off on the repair order for my tint ) which failed cuz he wasnt even there.

While driving to work on the highway, there was a dumptruck about 7-8 car lenghts infront of me. Traffic was medium. Boxed in my lane since there was two cars on my sides. Then the dump truck hits a bump on the road and a HUGE baseball sized, perfectly round rock comes out of the back of it. It hit the road twice and had enough bounce that it came crashing into my windshield. I was f-ing hulking up!! Fail at MVA and fail to the windshield!

Made my in home appointment with SafeLite. They should come fix it Wednesday. Only $100 out of my pocket.
