Default Hexxis 3D CF film

I had damaged my cubby lid with a GPS mount and after trying for many months to buy a used one, I gave up. I didn't want to spend $125 on a new one either.
I bought some Hexxis 3D Carbon Fiber film (vinyl similar to 3M Di-Noc) and went at it.
The first picture is of the damage. I decided to do the door switch plates also.

The film is very deep and looks very close to real CF IMO.

Another pictures to show how good this film looks.

Thanks.

I bought a Fairlady Z emblem off of eBay and covered it with the film. Originally I was going to put the emblem underneath the main wrap, but after 2 failed attempts, I gave up on that idea.

That looks really good, the weave definitely looks more realistic than di-noc. What is the texture like? Shame about the damage though, you made the best of it.

Wow, great job! Do you think a novice (like myself haha) could do something like that? What tools did you use? I'm really thinking about CF wrapping my panels as it would be much cheaper to do it myself.

The texture feels like it looks. If that makes sense. It is not flat if that helps.

I'm a novice too. This was the first time I had done anything like this.
Remember. This isn't real Carbon Fiber. It's vinyl.
I used 3M Adhesion Promoter to make the surface tackier so that the bond was better. I used a plastic putty knife as a squeegee. I also used a heat gun to soften the material and it also helps it form around the edges of the lid.
When you take the covering off of the lid, there is a "trough" that made space for the stitched seam. I filled it in with Bondo (also my first time).

That's perfect, thanks for the explanation. I especially like the door panel switch plates, I think I will give that a try now that you had success.

i think it looks like you did some good work.. i like the window switch plates for sure. the cubby hole i think looks good.. i probably wouldnt do it to an undamaged part, but i think it was a great solution for your problem.

i must say, however, that i think the cubby door looks much cleaner/classier without the Z emblem.
