Success! Black Nismo Knob On!
After almost popping a vein or two :icon14: So putting the duct tape on the knob worked (Thanks FromG2Z ) but not how I imagined. Kenchan thanks also! Wrapped the knob up in duct tape but it didn't really budge. Took the tape off and now the knob was sticky. Used one of my Terry cloths on the knob..strap wrench and OMG....it started to turn. Camera is kinda crappy and too much flash, it looks much better in person...matches well in the interior. The feel is soooo different, but I think I like it...will drive to work tomorrow. http://i720.photobucket.com/albums/w...ShiftKnob1.jpg http://i720.photobucket.com/albums/w...ShiftKnob2.jpg http://i720.photobucket.com/albums/w...ShiftKnob3.jpg |
Same here. Was able to finally loosen the stock shifter knob and replace it with my Nismo carbon fiber shifter. I must say that it definitely feels better than the stock shift knob.

my black aluminum came in yesterday. I tried and failed haha. The strap wrench just kept slipping. Ill have to try the duct tape trick to see if i can get a better grip. It looks great @thegreatone. Can't wait to be able to get mine on.

LOOKS great man! I think any of the Nismo knobs look great with the Z interior, and the shape/feel of it is the biggest plus for me. So for you and others that I have helped out.... I would appreciate some REP POINTS please!!!!!! :icon17: p.s. so the stock knob is in perfect condition? |

Actually some of the rubber to the front slid over exposing the metal below, but stock knob is pretty much intact minus that little blemish Ya, it feels really good and responsive. I don't know if it makes sense, but the feel seems to carry down to the transmission more (to me) where with the stock knob, I just feel like I was moving the knob around. |

YES!!! You are SPOT on with your analysis of the new knob. For one, it actually is a little shorter in height, which results in shorter throws. But the biggest advantage I think is in "feel" during gear rowing... it seems to snick-snick better, plus you can really feel like your more in-tune with the transmission... like you're "one".... more sporty, better feeling, better engagement. I think it's both mental and physical, but there are some definite physical changes that are there.... I love it. |
thegreatone- dang, your interior looks great! nice job~ :D
i am the only one that failed. :crying: |
Looks like I'm also in for a fail.. Ordered my TI shift knob today from TheNismoShop. Thanks for the referall Kenchan!

looking at thegreatone's strap wrench, he used the larger red one so get that one + cover the knob up with a terry cloth before strapping the thing. |
Finally got a chance to take out my car to try out this knob. feels solid entering the gates.
I likes. :p |
got mine on this past weekend. i didnt get a chance to take any pics but i like how it feels. i didnt actually weigh the black aluminium but ill say it is def lighter than the stock leather shifter but not by too much. still has a solid weight to it, idk if thats good or bad. i like how it looks and feels so far but its taking a little getting used to cause its much much different than the stock one.

the slimmer knob does feel quite different from stock but when you go back to your stock knob it feels like a raquet ball or something... im really diggin this titanium knob! |

Glad to hear you guys are lovin' it. I've had mine on now for about 500 miles. I love it. WAY better than stock. I 'feel' my shifts better now, and it's relatively shorter in height and row distance than stock. Plus I get compliments all the time on it by folks that see the set up. |

WTF Argh!!:shakes head: Maybe I got kenchan's "refurbished" wrench... I don't think lifting weights will help me with this. That home depot one looks stronger. I really do want to preserve the original shifter... right? ---AB:tiphat: |
I lol'ed :D
|
I lol'd too
As for the one's I got from Home Depot (Husky) I used the smaller of the 2 strap wrench's that come in the package. I think using the Terry Cloth over the knob was the equal of Duane Johnson putting his hand one top of mine while I turned the wrench lol. |
I installed this yesterday. Shredded the stock knob with a pair of channel locks. Oh well, hated the stock shift knob anyways...
Car shifts way better and feels more like a "sports car". http://i56.tinypic.com/5u20c3.jpg |
 congrats again, nynhex!
|
Is this the one you all picked up for $148?
Wonder why it looks so shiny here? Nismo Titanium Shift Knob |
Ti shift knobs FTW! Looks like this is going on my wish list. :D

alright I got er dun w/ the craftsman adjustable rubber strap wrench as in this thread, couple of pics below;
NOTE: I used the wrench with no cloth and was able to save the stock knob! http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...r/DSCN0398.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...r/DSCN0400.jpg http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n...r/DSCN0401.jpg |
^ very nice sir. I am glad you got my strap technique to work.

so i went at it from the base of the knob w/o the clothe and badabing! it started to turn...so slowly but surely little turn by turn by turn by turn... and eventually i was able to turn it by hand, and finally removing it. |
^ That's exactly how I did it. Although mine turned by strapping it on the top part of the OEM knob...figured, more leverage that way. It worked. I'm surprised yours spun on the base of the knob. Maybe yours was more loose?
And maybe Ken and happytheman broke their straps because they were just Hulky. :D |
