If it actually worked then maybe the wheel could be matched to the rest of the threads.

Anyway, crazy. I know. :)

Yeah...i think your going a little overboard with that one. But hey if you gots balls enough to try, go for it. I would love to see it work.

I wonder if they make one of those dye pens with a really thin tip so I could do the cloth seats with as little over on the black cloth as possible.

I can actually see the red smudge on the leather after the excess is wiped with cloth.
it will leave uneven smudge on the surface and will be apparent under good light source..
problem is that the marker does get absorbed into stitching but does not absolutely repel leather material and will leave permanant smudge, and you could damage your leather trying to get smudge off with chemicals unless you do some extensive chemical experiments

Really? Happen to have some pictures? I'd love to see it. A guy over at Camaro5 said the same thing but a little bit of cleaner once the dye dried and it cleaned any smears right up.

Did you use a damp cloth?

hello, here are the pics for the red stitching, i used a red "painters" pen that i purchase at walmart, it worked perfect. i did about 4 inches at a time and then wiped. i used a damp microfiber towel, i did ring it out as much as i could, i rinsed regularly. this morning i went out and i missed a few spots, i used adams leather and interior cleaner and the painted came right off the leather, but i did not affect the stitching at all you see in the video when im wiping the leather, you can still see a red tint on the black and even in some of the pics, i was taking picture right after each piece that i did, once i wiped it with the adam leather and interior cleaner all the remaining red paint came off very easy. now this is with the paint pen i used, i cannot say it is the exact same way with all the others.

I just died my stitching red this weekend. I used the same painters pen overhaulengines did (thanks for the tips by the way). Everything turned out great. I almost had a stroke when I made that first line as it looked like a mess but with a damn towel it wipes right off except for the stitching. I went back today two days later and noticed a couple orangey looking spots on the leather where I didn't wipe off good enough so I used meguiars leather cleaner and came right off. Didn't affect the stitching either. Anyone on the fence about this mod do it. It's just about impossible to screw up, extremely cheap, and looks fantastic.

I started doing mine today and I have a few tips already.

Our stitching is closer to a grey color so if you use the red FabricMate type dye pen it will look maroon not red.

I wasn't very happy when I started this morning so I went to walmart and picked up a Painters marker.
This is a acrylic paint filled marker. It makes the stitching much darker.

I also decided that I wasn't happy with the red color so I got a blue one.

It covered the FabricMate red without a problem.

I am soooooo glad that I went with the blue. It looks sick!

I am working on it now and I'll get some pics up a little later.

Here are some quick shots with the iPhone.

I don't have time to finish today but what I've got so far I am VERY happy with.

Here is the difference from stock:

A little closer

This is super easy and makes a HUGE difference.

Seems like I have another project I can do this weekend. :)

Wow, Dembflyr, it looks good. Make sure you let the dye/ink set. :)

m4a1mustang 01-27-2011 12:23 PM

Very nice!

RCZ 01-27-2011 12:40 PM

Thanks! Too much sand and salt on the roads to drive it so I'm sure it'll be nice and set by the time I get back in it.

One more tip:

Keep rinsing out your damp rag. The cleaner you keep it the easier it will be to clean the excess off of the seat.

Now I need to figure out how to color the stitching on the suede door panels. Might just have to go to an upholstery shop for that one.

kind of an interesting idea

Falcor 01-27-2011 03:16 PM

Looks great, rates about a 10 for bang for the buck DIY.

6spd 01-27-2011 03:47 PM
