Stitch dye? Anyone brave enough to try?

I was browsing the Camaro5 forum and stumbled into a thread discussing dye for the various stitchings in the car. They were talking about using an acrylic at first but it they started using a fabric dye pen. It seems to work pretty well and no one has mentioned any fading. (Camaro5 links at bottom of post)

Obviously you don't want to use this on fabric seats but it could definitely be used on the seats of the touring model and the console/shifter/cubby hole of all models.

ive always wondered if there was such a thing ill be will to try it out... anyways if the cubby ***** up.... im having my whole console wrapped by tony so it dont really matter

If you do make sure you follow the instructions posted there. Wiping it down every foot or so to protect the leather and all that jazz. :) Don't forget to take pics!

I am tempted to try this out on the cubby stitching, that video almost makes it look too easy!

Simota, let us know how it turns out if you do it. I really want to give this a shot.

damn... kinda neat actually, in for potential results! i think orange or red stitching would look pretty nice.

Dembflyr 01-26-2011 07:59 AM

I am soooo doing this. The only question is... red or blue?

Tough call. Blue might look good but red would seem more factory. Go with what you can live with since I don't think you'll get a second chance. :)

I'll try to photoshop some colors tonight. Does anyone have a good hi-resolution picture of their interior?

RedBullRR 01-26-2011 08:41 AM

I'd love to have my stitching in red, but I got fabric seats. Still would be nice.

Sibze 01-26-2011 08:45 AM

Wow, that kinda cool!

m4a1mustang 01-26-2011 08:48 AM

That's pretty cool!

I agree with Hotdog... go with something you can live with. Not to mention if you ever plan on selling the car some wild stitching color might turn off potential buyers!

Falcor 01-26-2011 09:26 AM

This is sooo badass! I'm doing it as soon as I can get my hands on the pens!

christian370z 01-26-2011 10:30 AM

Oh, a tip you can use to avoid so much over application on the seats themselves is to get some painter's tape and apply it on either side of the stitching you plan to dye.

6spd 01-26-2011 10:35 AM

^good idea

Falcor 01-26-2011 11:03 AM

would this be at all possible on cloth seats? or would it die the black cloth too?
