Perhaps after I readjust

Also, my camera is shite, so I think a closeup will just be blurry.

I'll futz with it tomorrow and then take some more pics.

Love what you did, Jordo! Both do appear to be slanting to the right. I'm not sure I would have noticed if I was just looking at the car without focusing on the emblems.

Thanks!

After taking another look at it on the car last night, it's really slight. I'm going to take a good hard look tomorrow in the daylight (didn't get a chance to mess with it today) and decide if it's worth the trouble.

I don't think anyone looking at the car in real life would even notice, but I get nitpicky, so knowing me I'll probably end up readjusting them...

Other than that, I really like 'em.

The outside emblems appear straight, but the Z part inside looks twisted on both of them. I think what you need to do it take a good straight edge and lay it across the bottom of the two silver wings and then line up the bottom of the Z parallel with that.

I personally think it's really noticeable. It was the first thing I noticed when looking at the pictures.

Thanks, but this is not a work of originality; it is copycatting at it's finest.

The guys at Datsun Freeway are the inventors. I'm just duplicating their fine work.

Jordan, look here:

Drafting Metal Rulers

You can't go wrong with having a high quality ruler around. You can use it for accurate measurements and also a straight edge. I have one similar to this:

C-Thru Ruler .5x6.25 Stainless

I use it all the time when working on guitars to set up the string height accurately. On the Celica, it was nice because you could lay it on the top of the front cover and use it as a straight edge to really accurately check cam timing.

Thanks, dude

I had actually used a straight edge to try and align them the first time I mounted the center piece to the outer ring-- the problem is that the two tabs on either side curve a bit, so it's easy to get things misaligned using that as the guide.

I just readjusted using a straight edge and straight body lines of the hood/trunk to realign. The front was only slightly off, but the rear was so far off, I'm beginning to wonder if the glue yanked it a bit to one side as it cured -- either that or I am seriously incapable of tracing a straight line with my eye even with the assistance of a ruler (of course, I'm left/right directionally challenged, so this could be yet another limitation of my mushy brain ).

I've got painters tape on to hold everything in place and will snap pics later today or tomorrow

All right, take 2:

I think that's on straight now... might be just a cvnt hair off in the front, but close enough. Back is definitely perfect.

Thanks

Seriously, those stupid things looked straight until I mounted them to the car...

Was I drinking while working on them...?

( Click to show/hide )
Of course I was -- why am I even posing the question?

Project complete!
