I used fishing line to remove the 2.3 badge on my Mazda 3, and it scratched the paint. I don't think the line itself did it, but I think there may have been some dirt worked in behind the emblem and working the line back and forth caused light scratches.

I would not use the tools from a hardware store. You'll cause damage...Rofl.
Hair dryer + fine fishing line + turtle wax bug and tar remover = works like a charm! |

I thought there were prongs on the back side of one of those badges? I know on the BMW roundels you had to pry a bit to get the prongs off some grommets. Anyway, I used those tool a bunch over the weekend putting in my head unit too. My point was it's better than screw drivers if you need to leverage something on paint or interior parts.
