Take some pics if you can. Did it tear the sheet metal, you said it's an inch deep if I read that correctly. If thats the case, you should def

Take some pics if you can. Did it tear the sheet metal, you said it's an inch deep if I read that correctly. If thats the case, you should def have the panel replaced. Bondo more than an 1/8" thick is never a good idea. Fill is ok for smoothing out imperfections, not to hide damage. Thats a very expensive and time consuming fix since the panel is welded on instead of bolted.
