Default Rear Quarter Panel

I just got my 2 week old Z hit on the rear quarter panel. I have about a 6" long 1" deep scratch on the rear quarter panel just above the wheel well. I always thought that this kind of damage would just have to be filled and painted. Well after looking at some parts diagrams online it seems like Nissan sells this specific part. (see pic)

Am I looking at the correct part/looking at the diagram right?
Do you think it would be outrageous of me to ask for this part replaced rather than just accepting the fill and paint?

Thank you for your help, I am trying to be prepared for what the insurance adjuster will throw at me.

The insurance is going to pay the min to fix it. If the quote is not including to replace a panel? You will have to pay the extra cost to have it replaced since thats your choice not to have any body filler. Some body filler is not that bad, done right you'll never tell it was hit. You have the choice to refuse the finished work if you're not happy.

If you're going thru your ins, and not the other parties. I'd push to get the panel replaced. But its highly unlikely it'll happen, but there's only one way to find out? Ask.

Make sure you ask for diminished value. They typically won't give it to you unless you ask. It's a little extra money to compensate you for a car that is now worth less because it was in a wreck. It may be possible to apply this extra compensation to your repair so that you can get the panel replaced versus body filler.

Yes. This type of repair would not likely warrant panel replacement (you don't even want to know how complex a rear quarter replacement is) A quality repair will be invisible..

Take some pics if you can. Did it tear the sheet metal, you said it's an inch deep if I read that correctly. If thats the case, you should def have the panel replaced. Bondo more than an 1/8" thick is never a good idea. Fill is ok for smoothing out imperfections, not to hide damage. Thats a very expensive and time consuming fix since the panel is welded on instead of bolted.

I am absolutely trying to get compensation for diminished value, but it seems it will be pretty hard.

attached you will see some pictures, not very clear, but I will try to take some during the day. Its amazing that its coming up to $4,500 worth of repairs. The estimate is for a new door skin, replacing the quarter panel, a new rear rim ($950 wow) and painting all the above plus the rear bumper

Any quality shop will want to replace the panel to fix that. Even insurance will agree I believe.

Find a shop that will replace the panel and have them fight for the cost of it.

I had the whole quarter panel replaced just recently. they did a great job with the body but i have pearlwhite which is a ***** to color match so i had to take it back to have it blended with the rest of the car.

my wheel was more messed up than yours but my insurance didnt replace it for a new one! =(

its been about 2 months now and i still have not heard anything back from my insurance as to whos fault it was. ha.

That door looks a little beat up also.

Hope everything works out for you. I just went through this myself. Back quarter panel was replaced and door was massaged. Shop did a great job!
Good luck.
