Default help~

Hi guys so I am trying to install my v1 like the link below... but the link below is practically dead so i just have some questions regarding this...

DIY: Valentine 1 HardWire (pix heavy)

i just have some few quick questions...

1) in the beginning do I have to remove the rear view mirror? because I dont see how thats going to make things easier.
2) up to step 10 I am assuming that everyone's should be the same... right?
3) now step 11 got me bit confused... do i have to cut it?
4) in step 12, it asks for add-a-line kit... wtf is that... can someone summarize that for me? its just confusing as hell...

also is this a good place to get your mount kit?
Mirror Radar Mount for the Valentine-1 Radar Detector
if not where else?

1 - Removal of the mirror is not necessary
2 - yes, everyone's layout is the same, he is just suggesting that bolt for a ground point (blk wire)
3 - you dont NEED to cut it, trim the excess as needed.
4 - Mini Add-A-Line (AutoZone part#: 032416) $7.41

And yes, that is a good place to get the radar mount. Just make sure you get the 23mm size

Sure there is. The current draw is low so tin up one of the wires, line up to one of the contacts on the fuse and push the wire into the fuse box.

I recommend you solder a 2A fuse in series.

GL!

The mini add a line makes this install really simple. Otherwise, you can just use the hardwire kit that comes with the V1 and tap into one of the lines down there. With the add a line kit, you won't need to touch any other wires.

I bought mine from countryjoycrafts and it was good. Make sure you get the 23mm mount and NOT the 3/4" one as that one is too small.

Also for Step 11, you have to cut the wire because there's a connector there that you don't need. That's where you crimp in the add a line kit.

Also he says to make sure the add a line kit wire goes to the left, but in my case I had to put it the opposite way because it wouldn't work that way. I guess the add a line kit I used had reversed polarity or something. Also make sure to put one fuse in the top part of the add a line kit cuz it won't work without any (or just read the instructions on how to install it lol).

Edit: Also that Z emblem you see was discontinued. They used to have it on the mount but not anymore.

Default Just hook up to wires in the Mirror

To keep from buying more than one V1, I wired my unit in each car to the wires in the Mirror and still use the suction cups on windshield to change the V1 just barely under the rear view mirror. I like this better because it gives me more room and I dont have to worry about hitting the V1 with my hand inadvertently when I am moving around in the car. Somewhere on the forum I have seen a V1 mounted just in front of the hatch door....I wish I could find that thread, it was really neat.
