I just bought the Whistler XTR-695 (literally 2 minutes ago) to use only during my long distance drivings so that'll be only when I mount it. Amazon has it today for $99.99 with free shipping versus the list price of $249.95 so that was another good incentive. Here's the item: Amazon.com: Whistler XTR-695 Laser/Radar Detector with Radar Signature ID, Laser Signature ID, 7-Color Display, Real Voice Alerts and External Audio Jack: Electronics.

AMEN. V1. Once you use the arrows and really know how many boggies (valid & false) and what direction they are coming from. Well, you will never go back. Lot's of notification is also a big plus. Had several escorts and liked them but after 15 years with V1.... JMHO...they are the best!

Another +1 for V1................
I have one in each of my 3 cars. This unit will always let me know if my Friends are in front, in back or on the side. Knowing the direction has saved me many times........

I have the 9500 with GPS, seems to do a good job.
On another note, how are people installing them and plugging them in. Are you using the outlet under the passenger dash? |

Passport 8500 X50. It's a little sensitive to automatic doors and stuff, but deal with it because it has saved me countless times so far (over the past year of owning it). All the good radars are pricey, but this is why you should collect credit card points or something similar. Mine was free; used my AMEX points.
