My hatch will not close, it's as though something is blocking the latch but there is nothing. The latch will not close no matter what, I had to drive home

Problem with hatch
My hatch will not close, it's as though something is blocking the latch but there is nothing. The latch will not close no matter what, I had to drive home from work with a open hatch. Anyone know what the problem could be?
