Question OK, ?? Does the fujimura and Evo Rear Diffuser actually work??

im not the smartest man

but ive been doing research on how rear diffusers actually create downforce
and it seems to me that the diffusers offered for our vehicles are purely cosmetic

based on what i read

the diffuser creates negative pressure in the rear of the car because the volume of air coming into the diffuser is bigger than the volume entering the the front of vehicle
"This negative pressure accelerates the air under the car which puts the whole underside of the car under negative air pressure. This creates a vacuum effect under the car which sucks it into the ground and creates down force".

now the problem i seem to have is
1) in order to achieve this negative pressure the car has to be as low to the ground as possible

2) seems to me that functional diffusers actually start at the front of the rear tire

now correct if im wrong but the carbon diffuser we bolt on to the z34 jus dont seem functional

which makes me sad cuz i really wanted one
but im really opposed to cosmetic features which serve no purpose.

the air has to start hitting the diffuser from practically mid vehicle

now lotus seems to be the actual inventor of the rear diffuser and it appears this is how it functions to produce that 30% extra downforce capable by such

now if anyone can prove me wrong by all means do so
id love to have an excuse to buy this thing

Unless your doing high speed runs, you won't really utilize enough downforce to effect handling. The diffuser from evo r is functional, just not as efficient as an f1 diffuser. The diffuser may not go midway, but notice that all the components are relatively flush. Even the exhaust has aerodynamic significance.

Mike... it's not functional. Not in the least. It's just for looks.

It's cosmetic because you would have to redesign the exhaust routing and cans to keep a true underbelly rear diffuser from lighting-up!

Now im gonna have to respectfully disagree kind sir

it seems to me the rear of the 370z under carriage is pocketed

logic seems to dictate this "pocket" above the muffler would trap air actually creating drag

which further proves the point that an actual Diffuser would have to start closer to the center of the Z...no?

You're right... the diffuser would have to run up to right around at least the rear axle area.

EVO-R/Fujimora "diffusers" are just designed to look purdy.

Though Mike was right in that you really need to be doing some pretty high speed track stuff for a functional diffuser to do you any good.

lol

im sorry man, im never opposed to what ever floats someone elses boat

i jus believe sport cars should have features which actually accentuate and increase performance aspects

look at Porsche for example

911 base...

911 gt3...

yes there are significant cosmetic differences but each one on the gt3 serves a purpose
to make the car more KICK A$$ performance wise implementing physics and science to increase it

i think any sports car should addition should obide by the same rules

because to add useless features to car built for performance is simply....

not at all, well maybe on caviler yeah, i mean seriously,

but hey look at the GT3 i posted, technically thats a body kit
...which improves handling, from inductions to wings that actually create downforce..

wheels can be wider and forged to maintain light weight..etc etc but yeah throwing some steel casted, chrome dipped rims on a true sports car...uhhh no

lol @ OP's question about the diffuser. How do you do research, find out how it works and then still wonder if that "diffuser" actually does anything...
