So I was about to put the lip on this morning....After a closer inspection there were some bubbles in the paint/primer already on the lip. There is no way this will look good un-painted. After runnning my finger nail lightly across the bubble, it will easily take the paint/primer off leaving white dots all over. You can just imagine what happens if you install it and have common road debris hitting it.

Yikes, I would sand it all off and start the primer from scratch. I would not trust the rest of the primer that's on there.
Good thing you caught that before installing. Hope others' lips don't start flaking away due to the inferior primer.:eekdance: |
I assume most of you will have the lip painted. The black paint is just to make the lip look good. Under it the gray part is the actual primer. I let factory know about this issue.

EVOR, Did you get my last PM?

Evo-R, this is why I PM'd from the beginning about the issue I had, lol Also guys the lip is going on tomorrow.
|
okay, I'll ask factory not to put on the black paint. FRP version are in!
|
All Pm replied.

didnt get a PM. forward you the last PM.

After saw above photo. I check all the lips that came in for this. None of them have this bubble problem. I looked closely to these photos, looks like some thing was spray on top of it to cause this. Cmike if you going to paint the lip this should be okay, but must be something got on top of it. Did other pieces have this issue? I really looked very closely to all the ones I have. None have this.
6 FRP version came in and only 2 left! |
I also inspected my lip tonight and found no imperfections throughout the 3 pieces
|
When do we get the 1 piece cf? Anyone has it on yet?

to remove the black i would use 400 grit, dont use too much force. use sandpaper that can be used wet and do the process with either a bucket of water or in your basin with trickling water. the reason for the wet sanding is to keep the sanding consistency. you dont want the paint/crud distorting your sanding surface.
then take 1000grit when you got most of the black off and smooth out as much of the sanding abrasions again using wet sanding. wash with plenty of water and some soap, use alcohol to remove any oil from the soap or your hands. dry completely. use a tack towel and run a few passes to remove dust. if you went through the primer, use adhesion promoter. do 3 light coats. dry it, run tack towel gently to rid any dust. then take your gray primer with flex agent. do 3-4 coats until it's a smooth surface. run 1500grit and get it super smooth. do another coat if necessary. it's now ready for basecoat. :p |

I think it's still worth it. |

3 piece CF is 329. 1 piece is 389. Shipping is also more due to size.
|
Wait, do you have a single piece FRP in??
Hell 3 piece frp will work too. |

yah, as for adhesion promoter you can get it at most autoparts stores.
i know for sure primer with flex agent is available at places like paintscratchinc.com and paintworldinc.com but not sure if its available locally. you might be able to get away with regular primer since the bits are pretty small... if you know you'll be scuffing it up from ramps and entrances you might want to consider the flex agent. |
just a random question. If we order the 3 piece and one piece ever gets damaged, can we order single replacement pieces?
