Have you not been in vehicles that have lights for when you open the door so you can see better when you get in? I see a bunch... even older cars. I don't know about your Z, but mine doesn't have that (which kinda makes me bitter because we pay so much for such a nice car and it doesn't have a stinkin light for the floor area like older and/or way less expensive cars). I think the interior mood lighting looks classy. That type of mood lighting is in a lot of high-end cars now. I just bought two orange LED strips at Autozone for $20, tapped into the Z kickplate, and it looks fantastic. Not too bright, not too dull. They come on when you open the door, and fade off with the dome light when the doors are closed. And now people can see better when they get in my car at night. Maybe you shouldn't let people in our car during the day since the sun illuminates that "crap that collects on [your] Weathertech floor mats."

I did exactly the same thing same leds,when done it looks factory
