Novo, how did you get the holes for the interior pieces done so well! ? Great Job though

Did you order the vinyl from us?
We normally apply the vinyl first, then use an xacto knife to trim to the holes. This isn't the case 100% of the time, but it's close ;) |
yah, did my G's rear valance last night and it turned out great. around the exhaust cut out, rear plate holder area, etc. i just heated it pretty well until the film was flimsy and just wrapped it over and cut the excess. i was kinda amazed how well the thing stretches. so for those that want to remove the trim off your car to wrap, it would be a lot easier imho than making templates to exact dimensions and such like how i did it. :) i just did not want to remove the HU and stuff again.
i want to do the Z's black plastic in front of the radiator next, but the 3M does not stick well to textured surfaces. i should try adhesion promoter... btw, after doing the G's valance i decided to remove it :D. hahaha. although the bumper looked great it just did not go with the rest of the car's elegant sleeper look theme (lowered with SSR 3pc wheels). the bumper looked out of place. so the CF will stay off my G and on my Z. :p |
I wonder how well the film will hold up to the engine bay temps? It can get up to 200*F or so in there.
hope it doesn't evaporate! :D hahaha.
considering there are small wires and stuff insulated with vinyl that are in the engine bay i think we'll be fine especially when the plastic is forward of the engine. i only measure about 185F at the towers so it doesn't get nearly that hot for me. |
Hey Kenchan, I got the steering wheel volume area perfect, the heat really is the key. I just cut my template in carbon, put it on, heated it, pressed it into any indents, then cut the excess trim (I was careful) ;)

I tried making a template, but figured it would be easier & I want it done right. So I'm going to tackle the project of taking the Nav out & doing the area around the Nav in Carbon.

i was wondering how these companies were wrapping the trims so quickly. with the right touch it's not hard to do at all, imho! Quote:

NYjon34- i dont see any picts of your work? post them up! :p
started getting stupid ordering small strips so ordered a bigger roll. :p going to do the roof and radiator cover and pillars for my honda fit's. :D
Hey, I just finished doing the head unit area in carbon fiber and I'll tell ya it def was a pain in the a$$ project, lol I have the metra faceplace kit, so I had to take everything apart. Plus the 3 circles for the air conditioner was extra tricky cus it's raised up and not flat.
Pics will be on in alil bit, gotta eat something, lol plus all my pics are on my iPhone, so I gotta convert them through the photobucket app.
Looking forward to the picts!! :D

gotz my ship conf for the next CF roll...
here is the G's rear valance i did a few days ago (but ended up removing due to not matching the theme of the car). was fun times putting it together. :p http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...8018-g35c1.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...8019-g35c2.jpg |
also wrapped my nav holder too. :p the bracket is 1mm thick, so wat i did was wrapped from the back side up to 0.5 on the side, then wrap from the front 0.8mm on the side to over lap. it's like paint.

It was kinda a one time thing, the guy only made 1 set just to see how they would sell. So when I bought them at that time, I was the only guy with a 370Z & real CF door switch panels.
:D hahaaha they look better than most of the stick-ons ive seen.
That's because they are not stick-ons, the stock pieces are wrapped in real carbon fiber.
no wonder they look good!
Thanks kenchan
let me guess spawn?
