Yah, hair drier is fine, but I have this smaller heat gun that blows precisely to the part I'm heating. I put my thumb next to where I'm heating so that I can feel how hot the area is getting not to damage it.
Thanks guys. The CF film I had I bought a long time ago in Japan at a hobby shop. I'm not sure what the material is but I used it on previous car door switch trims and lasted a long time. Like yrs without fading. Didn't have these nice 3M materials back then so we only had access to these printed simulated sheets. Its super thin and wraps very easily to the contours. I have some other thicker CF looking stuff my wife bought in Japan long time ago which requires me to spray adhesive on the back side (or get some large thin double stick tape). I might use that for the door trims down the road. |
Those gauge hats (3) are all the same size, correct? Anyone know? :p
|
pretty sure they are all the same size
|
yah, from a manufacturing perspective i doubt they would use 3 different sizes. be too much work.
i ordered up some of that 3M stuff. :p should have it by Saturday, hopefully. just a sidenote: my fujimura CF rear diffuser shipped... should have by Sat too. :p |
 post pics my brotha!!!!! gonna be sick
|
after i wrap the gauge hats i think im going to make those triangles for the door latch area. i doubt i can wrap the entire piece without removing it. im too lazy to remove parts from my car right now unless it's easy. dont want to bother with potential rattles down the road.
here's some ideas for you guys to try with your cutting and pasting skillz... http://www.carid.com/images/Nissan/NN3709B.jpg |
^Where did that diagram come from?

So those are real carbon fiber pieces?, but do they stick on top of the old pieces or do they replace the part all together?
|
Not sure if anyone cares but TODAY IS THE LAST DAY for FREE shipping (total over $50) at Carbonfiberfilm. They had this sale whole month of June. I am just letting people know :tiphat:

Wish my hands are handy, I would make a mess haha

drawing removed because the paws and clips were NOT in the locations that were in the service manual!
see later post where the clips are (the pict with the broken posts)... |
I dont use the 3M stuff but I have my own vinyl that is very similar to 3M but I apply my own adhesive. Some of what I have done.. This was the 19th IS250/350 I have done.

Looks good.... we do more exterior then interior jobs, but here's some pieces from a Supra dash we recently did.
http://mike.napurano.com/album/listp...obbdlrso&1.jpg Oh, and raw material is available here too. |
Wow that's really nice.
|
looks good~!
so anyone want to buy my evo-r B-pillars so that i can wrap my stockers with this 3M stuff that's making its way to me now? hahaha. :p it's pretty much new condition. |
was trying to take off the gauge hat without breaking the brackets but
not knowing where they were clipped, i broke them off. :icon14: :rofl2: considering i would need to tear off the brackets on all 3 of them i decided to abandon doing the CF sheet on them because the last thing i need is rattles from the dash. these things cost a whopping $54 each.   i used some mounting tape and placed it back on the gauge. it's back on there perfectly so cant tell it was ever removed but be aware where the posts are if you are planning to remove them. http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...-hat-posts.jpg |
btw, i removed the earlier post with illustration from the service manual for the gauge hats because the paw and clip locations in the illustration are not accurate.
|
my 3M sheet came in so made below.
so much nicer than the EvoR B-Pillars... http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...4-b-pillar.jpg didn't have to remove and wrapped around the sides. door jam side: http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...5-closeup1.jpg window side: http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...6-closeup2.jpg ofcourse we need CF door trims as well... :p i have real CF overlays coming to me next week but oh well.. took me some time to get it just right... http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...9-template.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...river-trim.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/kench...enger-trim.jpg :p |
That does look a lot nicer. That's some pretty trick stuff... looks like dry cf.
I would be interested to see what it looks like sprayed with clear. |
Yah, you'd need to remove the piece off the car to clear coat it separately. The material forms with heat so not sure how that affects bonding with the clear on a hot day(?).
To me the convenience of overlays is it can be applied without trim removal. Going to be working on the HU trim today...since I can't use my heat gun (HU has touch screen and don't want to take apart my stereo again) it will not be wrapped around. Will see how well it turns out. :p I have my doubts but if it sucks I can always peel it off. :D |
Good luck with the HU stuff. Interested to see how it all turns out. :)
|
I only have quick access to 1 example pic we've done.... can find more later if interested.

What I do is place a piece of paper over the trim and use a stylus and press down, get the basic outline. Then it's all trial and error from there. If you cut too much, just use masking tape on both sides and retry. The HU one is pretty hard to do... I'm not done yet on that one. :D |
Novo-
Lookin' good! GD HU, huh? :D |

i finished the HU, but my profile here does not allow more pict uploads.. out of memory... so i can't upload any more picts. :icon14:
so, i leave it up to your imagination. :rofl2: it looks great btw. :p |
|
Looks very nice!

redid the steering wheel CF trim to match the rest...
http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...wheel-trim.jpg also did the top triangle on the door trim lever area... :p http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...r-top-trim.jpg |
can't forget the visors. :p
http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...781-visor2.jpg http://www.the370z.com/members/kensa...780-visor1.jpg i think im pretty much done for now. i still have a good 12x12 size left. :D |
what color is that vinyl and how did you do the visor? Looks clean!
|
Looks good, kenchan.
|
I'm using the black sheet for everything. :)
doing the visors is the same. Just cut to size, heat it up, wrap the edges. Quote:
